Hello all,

I was wondering who has one of the AK Bowies from the misdone batch of first ones. How does it handle, feel overall, balance, etc.?

Take care,
John Johnson

Hi John!

I was lucky enough to talk Uncle Bill into letting me have one of the prototypes. I have NOT been able to do any real playing with it yet, but this week I'll have time to toss it around with a couple of guys who work with machetes and axes for a living - taking my 15" Ang Khola and Sirupati khukuris along, too - get a pro's perspective.

I WILL say, of all who have seen it, it pings a solid "10" in the "Oh, where'd ya get that, I want one..." category, moreso than the AK, even. Guys are more eager to wield it, seem more comfortable with it. They're confused by the sheath style, and, if they aren't familiar with khukuris at all, the chakma and karda greeted with a befuddled frown

Apologies for the delay in reporting, expect details in a couple of days!!

Hello everybody-
I returned mine because of the crack Bill
mentioned. It was 1/4 in. long and ran from
the edge straight up.
I would have kept this knife if it didn't
have the crack -I really liked the very comfortable handle and the blade shape. I
could slide my hand back a couple of inches
and chop with three fingers. There was no
vibration in the handle that I noticed, but
I didn't do many tip strikes.
Bill is it possible to order another like
these first three?
Thanks,
mikm

Whereabouts on the blade is that crack, Uncle Bill? One thing to consider re taking it down to eliminate the crack and ending up with a butt heavy knife is that if it does end up that way you can pop the slab handles off, fire up the Bridgeport and mill or drill a bunch of weight out.

Nick,

Excellent idea, as comparing it against a khukurui (which we all know the performance levels of) would be ideal. It will be interesting to see how the design functions next to a khukuri. I think this design will appeal to the people who don't like the overall shape of a khukuri, but like the performance levels of them.

Take care,
John Johnson

John J.,

Has the HI AK Bowie come in yet? Please enlighten us. I know you have had the pleasure of owning some large bowies in the past and I would love to hear how you compare it to a Tusk....LOL.

Ray, after seeing the Cobalt Special, they'll have to rename the Tusk the Baby Tooth.

Oh boy!

I got a package from the Postal man today, and all I have to say is the TUSK needs to be renamed the "TUSKETTE"!

WOW, is all I have to say. I haven't been this excited about a knife in a LONG time. I'll post more about it in the next day or so, as the weather here in Minnesota is stunning, and I HAVE to take advantage of doing some chopping outside before the Long Dreaded Frigid Season begins here

Needless to say, I'm impressed, as an initial view on it!

Take care,
John Johnson

Wow, guys - it sounds like the HI AK Bowie is a BIG BOY!

"TUSKETTE" - LMAO...LOL.

John, I still look forward to hearing about your chopping/cutting experience w/ the AK B!
Hurry up and take advantage of the weather before its too late.
