Why 80s camo carbon

I've been noticing a theme of 80s camo carbon being 20-50% markup on the secondary over any other carbon config. Is there any reason behind this other than limited quantities? Something im not seeing perhaps.

They call it ‘80s camo, but it more like ‘60s psychedelica.

Anyway, limited editions usually get higher prices in the secondary, at least for a little while.

They charge more for it because they're sure enough customers will pay more for it.

I'm not one. I dislike CF for handles to begin with, and am definitely not a fan of the nickelodeon vomit look. I'd take tutti-fruity "Frostwood" over that any day.

De gustibus non est disputandum. It's the most popular CamoCarbon variety. I like it a lot, but only on certain kinds of knives. It's also hard to come by, a lot of it seems to end up on the Ketuo/We/Kizer/Reate knives that I don't buy. Also picking through pieces of it is like picking through wood handles, not all of them have the same color or figure.

I get the sense that these materials are a way for makers to differentiate themselves from budget Chinese brands that are breathing down their necks. The higher end Chinese brands play into the exclusivity for a little while, too. But once they pass these materials down to their second tier brands (like We Knife to Civivi, Kansept to Tenable), the fad has lost its marketing edge and it's on to the next thing.

I have wondered if there's also sourcing issues. FatCarbon is Lithuanian, for example, and crystal ti is a new hotness thing, but we don't have much in the way of domestic titanium, so it popped up on Chinese high-end knives first and not a lot of Western makers seem to have ready access to the stuff yet.
