Why a machete for my collection...

Holy crud your great grandfather sounded like a BA! I think this story gives you the right to start a machete collection! ;)

I like machetes and use them quite a bit on a small piece of property I own out in the country. A Collins Legitimus, a couple from Fiddleback Forge and 2 that I got from Huntsman knives. The Huntsman are very nice. I am especially fond of the 18" Bolo. 52100 steel - I think its up around 58R, with a very nice contoured micarta handle. Holds an edge for a long time and really plows through just about anything. Machetes are great tools - one everyone should own.

About 15 years ago I bought a box of fiveTramontina machetes for $25.00 delivered. Can't remember the online seller. Couldn't believe the price so I bought them. I have one in the front of the house for cactus I have growing there, one in my truck, one in the garage. I gave two of them to buddies who decided that they would like one. I've another, no brand, no name. Can't remember where or when I got it. It's a little thinner blade with a more squared handle. Got a Gavilan that is shorter than the longer machetes. They are a really good tool and everyone should have a couple of them for use. I'm not a collector I just use them.

If you want a $60 leather sheath for a machete get a Condor, if you want a heavy duty $20-25 machete get an Ontario if you just want a machete that works get a $5 Imacasa, tramontina, Cornetta, or Gavilan.

I have the Condor Bushcraft Parang, and the El Salvador, and Golak machetes. The Bushcraft Parang is a must for value machete collectors! I use the traditional, El Salvador machete in the yard, and I like it a lot. I also have the Cold Steel Black Bear, Barong, Bowie, Kukri, Royal Kukri, Tactical Wazikashi machetes. Most of these would be considered "mall Ninja", but I really enjoy them, and all can be found for $15-$27. The Kukri is my user, chopper and is very good for limbs (tree:D).
I love my condor bushcraft parang. I just picked up a condor kukri machete for under 60 and it's another effective well thought out beast from condor. Much thicker than the cold steel stuff, but that's necessary 'cus I like to use them for breaking up firewood. Which would you prefer (along with the parang) for beating on hardwood?

The Golak would be my next choice, but I have confidence in my Kukri machete. I typically reserve my Cold Steel Trail Boss axe for heavy chopping.

I have the Pack Golok and Village Parang and they work nicely for larger wood chopping. They are similar to your Bushcraft Parang. The Pack Golok generally gets used the most.
