The Hawk Lock (RAM, MUDD, 0650ST) is, in my opinion, better suited for lefties than righties. All have left-hand, tip-up clip positions, too.
The stud lock is completely ambidextrous, and most liner and frame locks are doable for lefties.
Clip position is an important consideration. It could be dangerous to put a tip-up knife in the wrong pocket (accidental opening and slicing). If your son is a tip-up guy, he needs to make sure to get a model with a left hand clip position.
Tip-down may be a bit more awkward for him, but it's safer for lefties than righties. The blade is up against the left pocket seam, which prevents accidental opening.
