Why all the Sidekick/Wingman hate?

I've got a Sidekick and am with some others in that it is a very poor tool. The large screwdriver I had to file down as it would not fit inside most screw slots. The file is a joke and the pliers are just awful because the "wire snippers" don't close far enough to cut wire cleanly. Also, the dinky serrated blade is useless.

There are no wire cutters and I could care less if the pliers are spring loaded. Yes, I tried to use this tool and subsequently went to the Rebar and Skeletal CX and like these very much.

I also own a PST that I got way back. This is much better than the Sidekick.

VBA all that is true, but the PST and the sidekick are not in the same price bracket, so its not a fair comparison. If it doesn't work for you, then thats fine. But for someone looking at a tool at the sidekick's price point and the choice was that or a chinese knockoff, they might as well go with the LM. But to each his own, actual mileage may vary with use.

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of my Wingman, which I think I bought on sale for around $15-20. After using it for a while, I bought another when I saw a comparable price, and a Sidekick during the aforementioned Home Depot sale. I own other MTs - a couple of Gerber MPs and CRKTs, among others - but the Wingman continues to be just right. Here at work, they're starting to crack down on the use of knives in some areas, so if I need to open or break down packages outside of my own work area, I use the Wingman's blade.

The Wingman and Sidekick are fine tools for the price. I bought a handful last year as gifts.

Once you use the higher end Leatherman's (Super Tools, Wave, Charge, etc.), you see where they had to cut costs to keep the price of the tool down. And I don't do 2D philips drivers...... (I leave that to Gerber).......

I find a Super Tool 200 and a Micra for the scissors to be a better solution than a single tool that doesn't do anything nearly as well.

I think the Sidekick and Wingman are excellent MT's. Have the Wave too, but actually prefer the Sidekick most for it's size/weight. Also love the spring assist versions of MT's, find 'em easier to use.
