Why all tip down?

I prefer to carry my knives tip-up, but that is because of the way that I deploy them. As others have said, it's all personal preference.

not my pic, but this is my main reason

That's right- tip down and the blade goes through your pocket, tip up and the blade goes through your hand. Your hand will probably heal, your pocket will not.

Since we are on the ZT forum and many ZT's are flippers, when you put a tip-up flipper in your pocket you are automatically trying to make the blade open. Put a tip-down knife in your pocket and anything touching the flipper is trying to make it stay closed.

OTOH tip-up puts the thumb studs and/or blade jimping on the opposite side and end of the knife from your hand. You might not be able to pull the knife out and deploy it very fast but it is less irritating every time you put your hands into your pocket. As an example the thumb studs on my Kershaw Blur are big and sharp, and tip-down can eat up my hand if I'm not careful when putting my hand in my pocket.
