Why am I obsessed with messenger bags?

This is my "newest" one ~3 years old a medium sized bag. I think the current inside pockets are done differently, this one has four. You could also get a pouch that goes on the shoulder strap. The middle pocket is the deepest and widest.

Benchmade 710 in left pocket, too wide to fit in the leftmost pocket.

I never had any use for such an item until recently. I started commuting via the Metrolink, and on decent days I take my bike to ride the almost-a-mile to the police station.
My old softside briefcase just was a pain; what do you do with it?
So, I stole my kid's very nice Eddie Bauer messenger bag he'd bought while he was in college. Nice piece, this, with high-quality waterproof vinyl cover, good sturdy strap with shoulder pad, and all that. Holds all my police stuff and my lunch as well.
