Why am I still receiving e-mail notifications?

So I have all of the e-mail notification options un-checked, and the notification emails did indeed stop for a while.. but they are back filling up my inbox :(

Am I doing it wrong?

Another issue I seem to be having is not getting the little "bell notifications" when someone has replied to one of my own threads. I've double checked all of my settings, and I'm a fairly savvy chap.. thought I had everything goldilocks tight but apparently I'm at a loss.
