Why Angle Grinders are AWESOME (and why you guys are mean)

I mostly just use cutoff discs on the angle grinder actually, which is why i find it so useful. bench grinder cant do that. If i have a big inside curve i rough it with the angle grinder then round file, a bench grinder would be better and smoother at this.

Will I don't know why your raging on the grinder folks so much. Lots of "established" makers use them for stock removal to save money on belts. They're just a cheaper alternative to beltsanders for folks tired of wearing the thumbs of there gloves through from draw filing.

I would like to get my hands on a pedestal grinder like the ones we have at school and had at the mill. Baldor 3hp with 2" X 12" wheels. They will absolutely eat steel (and fingers) but I'd love one for removing scale.

Since they are Baldor, they're smooth as glass.

Problem is the cost. Most of the ones a guy would actually have in a home shop are just about worthless for knifemaking (IMHO).

I DO use angle grinders a lot... in cleaning up damascus between folds :)

Huh... just found one. At $475, I might just have to add this to the shop! :D
