Why are coated so much cheaper

Some are worth $2K if they are collectible (that is defined to some degree by the individual looking for them) however I think what most are saying is that on eBay (in particular) there are sellers who are pricing up more recent/prolific offerings and trying to snag the unsuspecting. With Busse (and many other makers) you need to know the nuances of what you are looking at to understand why it may either have the asking price it does or fetch the selling price it does. Just at present (for the past couple of years) there has been an unprecedented amount of offering direct from the workshop whereas in years past if there were a couple a year it was exciting. If one wishes to simply own a Busse family blade in INFI it is just a matter of waiting for the shop to offer something you fancy. If you want a specific model in a specific configuration you may have to pay the asking price of a seller. Value is a combination of what the seller will release the item for and what a buyer wishes to pay. Every seller wants to attract a motivated buyer. I have paid more than i believed a blade was worth (as defined by the market) because *I* wanted it.

Yeah, value is always in the eye of the beholder. And true value is created when the buyer values something above the seller, and both get what they want and are happy (seller got more than expected while buyer simultaneously believes they got a good deal.)

Yes most are custom shops that high but its not uncommon to see new releases at 100 - 200 above retail. I was going to meet a guy Friday for his HR2 for $700. He ended up selling it for $800 so the deal didn't go through luckily for me. I ordered the exact same thing HR2 comp/G10 and it will be on my porch tomorrow for $500. Those new to Busse go to the site and see 32 week wait so they go to eBay. If it wasnt for this forum I would have wasted $200 this week. Now I can get a nice sheath with the money I (saved?).

This is good info.if I find someone to sell me their skeleton key I would be willing to pay double the original price busse sold them for. Lol

The SK is a really interesting little blade. Mine (Dave Brown will ask it be called "ours") is possibly the most used knife I own. this is generally because of the size, it is just always there to grab.

Glad to hear it all worked out for you in the end. Be sure to post pics when the sheath arrives.

I think they're cheaper because less attention is needed on the blade.

I will never buy a coated blade, I think they look bad and also they add resistance when cutting items.

Satin is sexy.
