Why are knife people conservative?

Okay guys. I'm already sick of politics for the day. I'm moving this over to BladeForum's Political Arena.

Oh crap. Which one of you bastids stole my "move" button!!!!

Same one that stole mine. But I was going to put it in whine and cheese. Sounds like it's going to end up there eventually, might as well shoo it along.

My boss is a California-tree hugging-wine snob-antigun-lefty. He's also a pretty good friend who happens to think I'm a gun toting-knife obsessed-Bible thumping-right wing-conservative. Both parties guilty on all counts.:D

The other day he was visiting and we had an hour to kill, so we went to a mall that had a knife store. He owns a home with about 15 acres of land, and I had to ask him "Are you telling me that when you're working ouside, you never feel the need for a knife?" He said he did, but often took his keys or a box cutter with him  . Anyway, we went to the display counter and started had the sales rep start pulling some knives out for him to handle. After a few had gone through his hands, I could see he was beginning to like them. Oh no! What would he tell his wife and kids?!

We eventually left without buying one, but I know the pump has been primed. I'll be sending one to him soon as a gift. I guess that will really give him something to worry about: what if his Kalifornia Komrades find out he's brought a knife into the house?

As I told him, "When it comes to owning guns and knives, conservatives have the facts to support our position. We aren't fooled by the emotional hysteria, devoid of logic that liberals allow to dictate their actions." geegee

Or, you could just mosey on over to the Political Arena and read as many threads as you can. Then, if that doesn't satisfy you, you could start a really deep thread like, "What political party do you most closely affiliate with?" I'm sure no one has ever done that before.

I get it. I get it. I won't talk about politics on the knife form any more.

I do find that the vast majority of folks around here fit the traditional mold of "conservative."

I don't. Some probably hold that against me and that's okay with me. Some probably think quite a bit like me and that's okay too. But we all appreciate knives and that is awesome. :)

Why should this be an issue? whether someone is, or is not should not be an issue. Even when you find people who say they are one, or the other, you will find that they will differ on many different issues. personally I do not agree with either party if you are speaking "politically".

One othe thing you may want to consider is that some who call themselves "liberal" have waged campaigns against the carry of pocketknives.

This forum is about sharing a common interest which is about knives.

If believing in the rights our founding fathers set for us, (freedom of speech, religon, right to own a firearm and so on) makes me conservative, then I'm conservative. As far as I can tell, without listenening to others and just deciding for myself. Hardcore liberals are ruining this country. I hate that someone who thinks they know what's good for me.
Some liberal bi*%h in Mass. wants to ban putting a picture (like Osama) on shooting range targets. She says it promotes killing. GIVE ME A F&*$ING BREAK. anyone who thinks like this is an idiot and does not deserve to be an American. Anyone who is anti-gun, do us real Americans a favor and move to England. I do not own any guns yet, I will though.
I want to rant on the government for a moment. If they would do something about taxes things would get better. Make it so 1 person can support a family again. This way one parent can raise the children with morals and teach them right from wrong.
I would advise all Americans to read the constitution and the amendments. It's amazing how far we have strayed. This country is becoming pre-revolutionary England.

I have to stop before this becomes a novel. The whole rights issue really gets me going and I forget, our old friend Common Sense has passed into oblivion.
Sorry for the rant, this really should be moved to the political section.

Geez...Next thing someone will ask is; Who is "gay". For the record, I'm NOT "gay".:D.

 I can't believe the rampant homophobia around here.

Joking, glockman99, just joking. :D

A simple question about politics turns into some guy calling a woman he does not agree with a bitch and someone posting he is not gay.
Great...anyone else want to post anything else like maybe "and no woman of mine has ever had an abortion"
or " and damn well better have GOD in the pledge of allegiance "
or "Damned Clinton was doing to Lewinsky what Bush is doing to the whole damned country" actually I beleive that one.

surprised no one has admitted to not being black or hispanic.
FYI .. I am of Mexican descent .. not a liberal or a conservative. Not gay..not religious but if I was I would hazard to say that Christ would be ashamed of how his people act in his name.

Yeah, I was harsh with that b^%*h remark  , but, do you agree with what she is lobbying for. Because if you do, I hope you don't have a picture of Osama or Pres. Bush for that matter, on a dart board anywhere. If she wins and a law is passed you would be branded a criminal.

There is a Forum for Navy SEALs only that is turning into a political arena where it is liberal vs. conservative and the devil take the hind most.
Is it because this is an election year? I dont remember all this left agin' right stuff in the past.

FrogMan, Actually I don't even remember what set me off. Dumb-Ass syndrome I guess. It's just, everytime some person is doing something just plain ignorant, like the woman I mentioned. They either state, or my sources (t.v. internet) state, the knuckle head is a liberal.

There are a number of libertarian (small l) and classical liberals on this board who would be quite insulted to be called either Conservatives or Liberals. Actually, I suppose they wouldn't be insulted after all; they'd just roll their eyes  and laugh at those who can't tell the difference.

B.S.C., I admit, I really don't know what truly makes a person either, enlighten me. Rolling eyes and laughing is no way to show a person, that they could be wrong.

fulloflead,
Welcome to the forums.

What was the original question?

First, I am not sure that knife people are conservative.

Knife people are simply folks who have developed an interest in knives. We come from all walks of life, all age groups, and many different countries. On these forums we are probably mostly middle class moderates from all around the globe. We have enough resources to come on line, to learn the English language, and to occasionally buy a few knives; but, I doubt many of us are actively looking to invest multiple millions in acquiring the sidearm Christopher Colombus wore during his 1492 voyage. We are also very tolerant. This form of communication requires a degree of patience and a willingness to cooperate to understand each other. Call us conservative or liberal if you want to, but it reflect more on where you are coming from than on us as a community.

I stated that I am not a conservative simply to show that not all knifenuts are the same politically. Other than that, I'm not very interested in discussing my politics here. I really enjoy talking about knives and if I got into a bunch of political arguments with folks here it would interfere with talking about what I truly love: knives. The U.S. is supposed to be a free country, so let us all be free to love knives and agree to come together on that topic.

The wise man said:

I agree and I'm done.

Wow, you know how to attract attention Fulloflead! I agree most people here are generally conservative (I am not), however our shared passion for knives is not "political" per se but it becomes politicized in response to irrational fear of knives. That irrational fear leads to stupid things like banning nail clippers from airplanes, Swiss Army knifes, etc. But as Anthony points out, it is conservative administration that passed this policy, also same Bush administration that passed USA Patriot act (with brod conservative liberal support) which is aggresively eroding individual rights and promoting Big Brother state monitoring, etc. So I would agree interest in knives is not political in itself, however it is also not completely divorced from rest of society...

Thank you Anthony Cheeseboro and others for your intelligent remarks. I agree with much of what is said here. This board is for the discussion of knife related topics and is for people of all political ethnic and religious persuasions. I am glad to hear that there are some folks here who are NOT flagrant right wingers, perhaps more than I thought.

As was pointed out here and in other threads, just as many conservatives are anti knife as liberals. Our job as the United KnifeKnuts of America is to educate them all so they won't live in irrational fear of important tools that each of use everyday. Aside from that let's just enjoy ourselves because we are indeed in the golden age of knives!
