why are Microtech folders so expensive?

I think a better question would have been:
What knife out there today is currently unknown
and undervalued for its price point.
Many of the knives today that are highly soft after
and quite expensive were new once, an they had a
lower price because the market didn't know them and
as stated above its what the market will bear for the price.
sounds like you should be looking for the next rising star instead

Certainly would be an interesting question for a different thread. :) It reallly has very little to do with what the OP is asking about, though.

I would say for the price you pay, you're getting... Very unique and cool designs.

Unique to who, the customers or the folks they've stolen their designs from?

Why are Microtechs so expensive? Because people keep paying that moron Marfione to make them.

Upcoming Socom Delta with full Brass handles. I think this sort of uniqueness and quality certainly deserve the asking price.

Brass handles have been done before. Nothing unique there. Want to know why you don't see brass handles anymore? Because when they take on a patina they look like ass. Also, brass is heavy as hell. The Socom Delta isn't even unique in design, it's just a revamped Socom Elite pattern with a Sublock handle design, which was a stolen idea from Zero Tolerance.

I'm afraid to ask how much Marfione is going to rape, er, I mean charge for one of those.

Dude, it sounds like you have a real hatred for the Microtech Company or even Tony himself. There are more important things in life than to get all worked up over some stupid drama. Your beating a dead horse when you keep bringing up how they "stole" the ZT design. We get it, you don't like Microtech....

It's not just Microtech, we generally don't like thievery as a whole. Microtech just happens to be the topic of this thread. I'm not much of a fan after the whole 0777 fiasco, but I wouldn't mind a whalesark in CTS-204p.

I bought 1 microtech and was incredibly disappointed. it was an ultratech zombietech. two days after i got it, the screw began coming lose. since i did not want to pay 180$ for the microtech driver, i bought a third party bit. had to wait 2 weeks for it to arrive. when it finally arrived, I attempted to tighten it, just to realize 4 of the 6 screws were broken and would not keep the knife tightly together. I contacted microtech, but have never received a response.

You hit the nail on the head, my man. In my opinion, Marfione is a scumbag and his company is garbage. All the guy does is habitually burn bridges and piss off customers. You can go ahead and put quotation marks around STOLE. It's what happened. Plain and simple. He makes aluminum handle knives for the most part. Nothing special about them. Sometimes he'll throw a gimmick out like bright green anodizing with red paint spilled on it. Man, that is exotic and unique! Yet folks still just throw their money at him. If you like giving your money to a thieving piece of trash, go for it.

You could also just not read my posts, or better yet, put me on your ignore list. As long as people are going to ask about MT then I will gladly be throwing in my two cents.

Edit: Do some research on Marfione and MT over the past decade and see what kind of trash you can dig up.

He has yet to pay Butch Vallotton for the use of his bolster release D/A mechanism.

See! I didn't even know he burned that bridge. You'll notice that MT no longer produces the Lightfoot LCC or the Terz ATCF either... Wonder why? They were very popular models. All those awesome old Brend ground models. Why no more collaborations with the grinding genius that is Mr. Brend?

They just hadn't been released in awhile Tony. Things change.

These are HALO Vs. Look who ground them ~2 years ago...

ETA: And yes, I realize they're not a "folders", which are the topic matter of this thread.

But they are expensive, as are most HandGround, High Polished, Stainless Steel chassis knives. Especially OTFs.

There's a reason not many Companies can make anything even close...

The price is high on the newer models as they all ways have but it seems like there are so many new models being made that they are only being released is small batch's and the price is not going down as it has in the past.
Personally I think the price on all the high end manufactures has been going up and up with no explanation except that they sell, High end Benchmade and Protech, Strider are just a few examples.

I trust Tony8179's word; he has some RJ Martin grails that would put marfione back to the stone age,& Dalton is right behind him, with his overpriced aluminum as well.Ha !....

I know the history, but don't regret buying any Microtech's, The SOCOM S/E is my fav Microtech, and maybe a DOC is in my future, waiting on some different blade steel.

no Doubt innovation could use a jolt there.

My doc is really nice but not without issues. I messaged microtech and they did all they could to help me. They even waived off the return shipping fee. My knife goes out when time permits.

Tony - people like you make this forum unenjoyable sometimes. Me personally, well I think that Mt with brass handles will look great with use. You seem to be the type of person who won't touch anything that takes patina with a yard stick

LoL you can just overread and ignore what he is saying, no need for getting personal.. I'm glad that are people like him out there who are telling you the truth and not the very blind fanboyshit of which this forum has already waaaay to much! (Also dudes like him already saved me a lot money I guess for which I'm very thankful.) I'm already sooo tired of people who obviously are blind to any issues with the big brands but this is just my humble opinion. Go ahead and feel free to simply ignore that ^_^. Peace

Microtech seems to be running the company by the seat of their pants. They move around the country too often. They have poor record keeping, the MSAR production went sour, they can't get a substantial amount of their knives to work right, at the SHOT Show every year they tell you what's coming out that year but never deliver. I love some of the models. I own a stonewashed Mini Socom, 2 LUDT's, an UMS, and I also had 2 Scarabs (one stopped working after a month) and a Troodon which was my favorite knife and I thought that I'd never have to purchase another knife ever again until I opened and closed less then a dozen times in the span of 20 minutes....and it broke. It also broke my heart. Yeah I'm a bit scorned but maybe part of the reason the prices are now so high is to recoup money lost during the MSAR debacle and a few other reasons.

Indeed. Would be great if some other reputable companies like Zero Tolerance went on to make those very models - though that's just wishful thinking, but still.
