Why are racist, religious, bigot, and intolerant posts only worth an infraction?

Is it possible that paying members are given more latitude for their status? Genuine question, not an accusation.

I haven't been around as long as you, but I honestly haven't seen any evidence of that. I know that I sure wouldn't count on my gold status to protect me from the mods should I screw up.

In the past, maybe. I'm certain I got away with a lot of the crap I pulled because I was a paying member, plus I contributed to discussion. If I was a non-paying member that nobody knew, I probably wouldn't have gotten away with some of the stuff I said. They've cracked down harder on people's antics in the recent years. I've cleaned up my act (mostly), and meanwhile I see warnings and infractions readily being given to paying members, and I've seen countless banned over the years. I've received 2 warnings myself (one deserved, one BS).

I don't believe in thought policing people and making sure everyone conforms in their views, but I will not tolerate racism & assorted bigotry on here. If you have abhorrent opinions about interracial marriage, LGBT issues, or whatever? Keep it to yourself, or get the fuck out.

We have a cardinal rule around here: Be nice. Treat people with respect. It's a shame that people can't live by simple principles.

I personally probably would have banned him immediately, but the mod in question decided to give him a chance to change his ways. I support giving people second chances too. Being gleefully bigoted & an asshole about it? Fuck that noise.

He's gone.
