Why are SHOT, the LVCKS, and the ABS RENO show running concurrently?

Looking forward to the Reno ABS show, I looked it up on the web. Much to my surprise, it wasn't the week before or the week after the SHOT show -
it is concurrent with SHOT!

The Las Vegas Classic is also concurrent with SHOT which I can sort of understand but, it ensures lower exhibitor attendance because I know some of them will be at SHOT supporting their factory affiliations. Then there are people like myself who must decide whether I can afford to spend SHOT SHOW time at the LVCK. I'm sure the LVCK will get some cross over from SHOT attendees who wouldn't otherwise go so, I can sort of understand their position on selecting these show dates.

Am I the only one disappointed that all these shows are running concurrently?

Don't forget about Little Rock at the beginning of February. A person can't possibly afford to make all these shows.

I didn't know the Reno show was the same week!

I'm going to be at SHOT and the LVCKS anyway...

Well, I sort of agree and disagree with that statement. With my disappointment at Blade West last year, I skipped it this year. That allowed me to "pick up" a new show. I considered the Winston-Salem show but, thought I should try the ABS show in Reno. I've been to Little Rock before so, I know that won't meet my expectations of a true ABS show. Hmmm....maybe a Guild show?

Anymore there are just so many shows that overlap seems unavoidable. I'll be at the ABS Reno show. This one is scheduled annually to coincide with the Safari Club International meeting, the American Firearms Engravers (?name) and one other distinguished group. If you attent the ABS show you get free admission to the others I mentioned. See the web-link above for details. Am I dissappointed? Not really - my experience at the ABS Reno show has been so positive that I'm not sure I could be lured away by LVCKS and I'm not in the industry so I can't go to SHOT anyway. Don't get me wrong - I'm sure the LVCKS will be a great show too.

Not sure whether there would be a better time. Maybe any other date is too close to some other show?

Interesting to see Rob Hudson at LVCKS. I wish he were at Reno instead - that's where I'll be!

??? The Little Rock show is a big room filled with names like: Jerry Fisk, Roger Massey, Ron Newton, Jim Crowell, John Fitch, Terry Primos, Dave Anders, Jerome Anders, John Perry, James Cook, Craig Camerer, Russ Andrews, Reggie Barker, Jerry Lairson, Joe Flournoy, etc...

Sid, I don't know what more you could expect out of an ABS show? What, exactly could be a true ABS show? How long has it been since you went to the Little Rock show? A couple of years ago, they moved it to a much bigger room, and a lot more makers have shown up. It's a great show!

Not tryin to give ya a hard time; just hopin to convince ya to show up! :)

Interesting to see Rob Hudson at LVCKS.
Joss, that would be Rob Hudson from PA and not Robbin Hudson from MD. Yup, big difference.

From MY end, I wished like heck to be the show photographer at either Reno or LV. Both promoters had already committed to others for These dates, even though I contacted them early (P7 in the ABS and Jim Weyer at LVCKS).

Going further, I even tried to get my foot in the door at the Arkansas show. Nope. The promoter told me the president of the 'club' would be doing that and wouldn't change a thing. Damn......

You just *may* still see me in Vegas, though. There is a SERIOUS 'invitational' black and grey convention going on on Friday, in addition to all the above. I want a piece of the action.

I have not decided but had been looking into the possiblity of these shows.

Hard now to find 7 day excursions and any less to go with Phyllis does not allow her an opportunity to do what we would like in LV. Also still a bit cool in LV at that time of year for much other than looking around. Not exactly pool weather.

So, how does one catch all the shows. Well, one could catch the LV show on Thurs and then Fri am fly from LV to Reno for the opening of their show. It is only an hour flight and return fair is $100.

Sat and Sun at the LV show and then have fun for a few more days around LV before coming home.

California Dreaming on a Winters Day!!! LV is better than LA!!

Well, when I went about 3 years ago, it was at the Hilton and in a pretty small room. And yes, there were some big names at the show but, their tables were mostly empty (the makers were easy to talk to and didn't have a horde of people at their table so, that's a plus for Little Rock). What was left on other tables did little to motivate me and, there was a lot of poor quality work there that I won't go into here.

It sounds like I might need to reconsider Little Rock...hmmmmm.......

This is really poor scheduling in my opinion by the folks who run the Firearms Engravers & Gunmakers Exhibition, the folks that the ABS has piggybacked on to hold the Reno show.

I hope they look at the calendar for next year and pick a date either the week before or the week AFTER SHOT, that way many can justify a weeks vacation for both show weekends.

It is a shame about the them being on the same day, weekend or whatever.
I'm going to Reno. :)

not the best time of year to be driving the mountains between LV and Reno so I'm told. not too bad a cost for flying though.

I thought about going Friday to Reno and then driving down that night to Vegas. Then my bride got involved. Now we have to do some quilt stores in Reno.(her not me)It is a two day affair for her.Well I'll just have to force myself to indulge in some adult beverages with Rick,Nick,Jim,Jason,Jason, and the Montana boys.HaHa But I'll force myself. :)

Gonna do the Vegas show and SHOT, cant wait.
There's also an invitation only show that weekend put on by Dave Ellis and Ed Wormser, $100 to walk through the door, kinda run like the AKI show. Wont be at that one:D

You wouldn't have been any more impressed this last year, but you were missed! I noticed you weren't around.
