Why are the handles removable?

I really want to but...is it still considered thread derailment if others are egging me on ;) ?

(Big breath in)... okay, whats up with the figure 8???

Naw. Please do. It sure is more interesting than what i started with! :D

We aren't too strict on thread derailment, and since you are asking a direct question of the boss then it is still about Becker stuff. Hopefully he sees this and chimes in.

Are you saying you would be concerned with the handle tang rusting under an epoxied micarta handle?

Yes. With wear and tear water always finds a way inside and over time that can easily cause some rust.

Thanks, found their site last night, got my eyes on the stealth harness. I'm assuming that there's some inside joke about the figure 8s so I won't explain what they are....

Do you know who invented it?

I'm guessing it wasn't some Scandinavian ice skater. If I were to guess Uncle E, would I be correct and be able to brag about meeting the guy who invented the figure 8 (after I finally make it to a gathering) with my climbing co-workers?

Hey Oxide.....

I did not exactly invent the "8" but, I can claim to have made the first one more than three people wanted to buy......The early ones were Brit and not terribly well thought out.......One was sand cast brass and really great in bar fights but, tended to weigh the rack down......I knew there was a real useful tool in there somewhere and by gum there was.......

HA! I've seen one of those brass numbers! A crusty old climber friend of mine had one, must have been 6 or 7 years ago that I saw it. It was a HEAVY beast! Ethan, is there any connection between CMI and Bluewater in Carrollton Georgia? Their 8's and Rescue 8's look virtually identical to those of CMI.

I have no real contact with CMI anymore and really can' t answer about Bluewater.......Never saw an example of the brass one....Wow that is probably the only one in the States!!!!!!!!.....Interesting....
