Why aren't Benchmades sharp out of the box?

The best thing to do, if you are so concerned with this topic is:

When you go to the store and look at knives,......

Don't buy the dull ones

If you buy knives on the internet or mail order, sight unseen....

Plan on sending back 2 out of 3

especially to Smokie Mountain Crap works, because they will not only send dull knives, but they will send mismatched stag handles and generally messy knives. In fact I think smoky mountain C.W. sends out their seconds in the mail order dept. They are very bad.

I just don't feel you can get a good knife through the mail.

Boy, that's really going to dampen Les De Asis' limosine ride to the bank. Rather, take the money and buy a knife from Tony Marfione and send Les the box it came in. My guess is that when Les has all of the MT boxes he can use, he'll call Tony for instructions. I don't mind sharpening--if a new knife is dull, I'll touch it up. What I do mind is paying +100 bucks and being thought of as inconcequential, or incompetent or indifferent to quality.--OKG

I think Matt Shade is right, partially. The angle / thickness may make some difference in what I felt / observed. It would shave if pushed hard at the right angle. But, I spent a few minutes with the Sharpmaker (40 degree) and made a great improvement. Overall, I like the design and construction, but for $100, it should at least be sharp.

I have to agree with Recharge. Go to a shop, handle the knives and buy what you like. I don't have much choice here and have to buy at fairly high prices from the local dealer. It is just too much of a risk to trust postal workers in 2 countries not to help my new knife find a new home

So I go to the shop, check out the stuff and buy the best of the lot. Sometimes I'll look at 3 identical knives before deciding which feels best for me.

Sharpening knives is an art thet takes time to master.sometimes you get the teachers work sometimes the student.

Still at Benchmade full time?
