Why aren't more blades made from titanium?

It's simple logic that even a newbie idiot should be able to figure out. If titanium was superior, despite the cost, we'd see it being used for blades in the top-of-the-line knives. We don't, so obviously it isn't. Wondering otherwise is naive, and arguing otherwise is moronic.[/QUOTE]

Wow, way to make newbies feel welcome to this forum. Let me see if I have the formula down, first make a blanket statement insinuating all newbies are idiots. Yea, yea thats it, thats the ticket, newbies are idiots. Step two, make another statement about even wondering about a topic or something is naive, then finish it up that saying to argue otherwise is moronic. This I find interesting as I thought this was all part of the learning process, wondering and thinking about things or topics and then having a pro and con are argument if you will.

Question about the whole newibe thing. From the way I understood it a NEWBIE is someone new here that is coming here for information from assumingly more knowledgeable and experienced folks who have been around for a while. Oh, my bad their here for the more knowledgeable and experienced members of this forum to belittle and berate for being idiotic morons.

Yeah he said he chose it for the swamp lands that eat away anything else he ever carried too and that he needed something that would hold up. He must like em ok. I mean he has a couple of each model they make at Mission.

Stellite, Talonite and Beta Ti can cut flesh well no question. They do suffer from hitting the bone but they excel at the flesh cutting really and I guess if you are doing it in a swamp full of salt water that they would be a fine choice for that. In experienced hands I'm sure a talonite blade could skin up a camp full of deer but the first time you used it on something hard you'd probably figure out one of it's weaknesses and have to touch up where it dinged. You can make titanium in the 6AL-4V sharp enough to certainly cut flesh, and other softer materials. The difference is probably the frequency of touch ups vs a steel blade even if it was a 420J steel or something else bottom of the barrel. Like I said, if I was stranded and all I could snag to survive with was a piece of scrap titanium from the plane crash I'd take it and make that work and be thankful for having it. I'm sure it would suffice no doubt about it and probably for everything from a weapon to a survival knife to cut up food.

When I think about the knives my wife works with in the kitchen that are always beat up and dull I can see how someone would accept and be fine with a knife that has less of an edge on it than we all like. Most people learn to get by with a vague semblance of an edge long after the factory edge wears off. They'd sooner complain about a spot of rust than they would a dull edge. So it is no surprise that any of the ti or other material blades are more than ample to handle things for them, at least not a big surprise to me anyway.

I'm hear, I was gonna post about my anecdotal evidence of carrying and using Mission Knives exclusively over the past 3 years, yes I have cleaned deer, ducks, squirrels, geese, rabbits, cut rope, feed bags, card board, bait, etc. with them. Can usually clean two deer before I have to touch up. I carry the same knife from diving, to fishing, to tree stand to duck blind, to work. However, I got sidetracked when I read the post belittling Newbies.

I don't break tips anymore either, I typcially would break a tip a year most of the time when moving lock on and ladder stands at the deer lease. The salt water, marsh mud or swamp mud which burns when touching your skin will eat up equipment like there is no tommorow. Not to mention the fact that days of 90%+ humidity are common. For me they work, in the process of working they do not rust and they don't break. I have taken it offshore for 3 days and nights fishing, diving, cutting bait, simply rinse it off or not, drop some oil and the pivot and touch up if necessary. Meanwhile I'm washing everything else down with soap and water, drying, taking 000 steel wool to remove rust spots, then never dull polishing and then wipe down with Marine tuff cloth, next trip to the bottomland hardwoods chasing deer or fishing and its rusting again. Keep it, for me it is not worth it.

You can leave buck, gerber or similar knife out for one night here and in the morning it is rusted. My knives get used I hunt and fish over 60+ days per year in some very harsh environments, I have literally seen knives rust out in one duck season (60 days) in the coastal marsh which is brackish water.

That said the titanium knives do not hold an edge like steel it is a softer material, but it is tougher i.e. no more broken tips. One other thing I read in some post about Titanium being brittle??? What, titaium may be a lot of things but brittle is not one of them. I have used mine to cut through thin alumnium sheet and insulated metal wire. I have never chipped an edge, broke a tip or incurred any damage other than a rolled edge (one time). I have had one small portion of the edge that rolled once, when I was cutting the insulated metal wire. It was easily fixed the next time I sharpened. After everything I have put these knives through for the last three (3) years and only had one very small edge roll occur one time, I am happy with their performance. It works for me where steel blade knives have failed either due to rust or breakage, that being said I will not respond to anyone seeking to bash me for what I use and carry on a day to day basis. I've tried other stuff it just doesn't work for me the way the ti stuff does, want you knife tested, send it to me. I'll send it back to you at teh end of the summer and it will be rusting moderately to severly and the tip will probably broken off. When your a 100 miles offshore or 7 miles from the nearest paved road on horseback chasing deer through palmetto hardwood bottom behind a pack of walker hounds, you sometimes have to use what you have even though it may not be the best tool for the job. This means knives get used for lots of things they were never intended or designed for, additionally when your in these places I don't have time to keep breaking out a marine tuff cloth to keep wiping everything down. Everythign we use that is metal when possible is made of non-ferrous metal, no iron which typically means no rust, or have it coated i.e. all guns are dura coated, all racks, bumpers, grill guards, etc or line-x or rhino lines. The dura coat usually last about four to five years and then the guns have to be redone. The line-x usually has to be touched up every year to account for chips and dings.

I did not put anyone down in this post nor did I chastise them for their blade choice, I merely stated what I use and why, I use it because it works for me, and listed why. In fairness I have never used H 1, stellite or talonite, so I don't know about them. Hope this helps. Hey, Steve, thanks again for the modifications, I will be sending the others eventually for same.

Whoah, I wrote that? That's a rather harsh of me, I must have been drinking (especially since I don't remember it). I don't really disagree with what I said, but I've surprised myself that I said it so abrasively and without candor; I'm usually not such a jerk.

My apologies Jaymz, you asked an innocent question, and if there's someone to be faulted for making you ask it, it's the idiots who naively and ignorantly perpetuate the myths of titanium, misleading you and others into thinking that it can do what it cannot.

Again, my apologies.

Yeah well I got a warning from your pal Bastid for retaliating with this little guy - :jerkit: Maybe it will get retracted since you admit you were being a :jerkit:

Here's a better forum to go on when you're drunk:http://www.uselessjunk.net/index.php

Well, I doubt it'll be retracted, since it was inappropriate (two wrongs don't make a right). But definitely no moreso than my behavior; if I was left with an infraction for what I wrote, it would have been justified, and I won't complain if I do receive one.

Again, apologies.

Maybe your parents should have realised that two wrongs don't make a right, before they decided to conceive.

Sorry I'm drunk.

Now that's way over the line there, buddy. I doubt you even are drunk. I offer you my hand in apology, and not only do you spit on it, you bring my parents into it. I still won't object if I receive an infraction for my earlier behavior, but all apologies I made to you are retracted. You can go to hell.

I never accepted your apology anyway. And I'm already in hell.

I wished I read your posts in your other thread before even answering your question in the first place. Your true colors have been revealed, and if you keep up like you're doing now, expect your stay to be short indeed.

Aye aye. Nah it won't make me feel like that maggot batman. And you've seen the blades he carries anyway, not much bigger than what I'm looking for.

Listen, I'm not here to argue or anything, but I will get more than snarky if you give me shit advice like that again.

C'mon mate. Give me a break.

You're doing yourself no favours. Yeah I'm a noob here, but so what. Post counts are overrated and you're a prime example of that. I know how to handle myself on a forum and in real life and I'm no E thug.

No I'm not a troll and I'm sure you know that. I'm a guy from a horrible neighbourhood, looking for some advice for some extra self defense, within the law.

Get out my thread if you don't have anything constructive to say.

Way to go to stick up for your Canadian comrade.

Please, I'll say again - if you don't have anything constructive to say - leave.

I'm not in the mood for trolling or anything else.

I'll retaliate when there is a post like yours aimed towards me.

If you notice in all my posts and threads, never once has it been me that started any animosity. Fact.

If you don't want me to retaliate, don't try and take the piss.

If you don't want me to retaliate, don't reply to this post.

And the other guy who was racist towards Scottish people, I didn't accept his apology either.

You were out of order, the racist was out of order and the Canadian guys were as well.

If anyone wants to continue the argument you started PM me, so I don't keep getting infractions.

I know you would like to keep it in a thread because I'm the "noob" and you're the internet god, so get more favour.

You and your little fan club aren't worth anymore of my time. Keep it up, see what happens.

Are there any moderators here that aren't weeping vaginas? I have a complaint.

And Planterz, you have no balls. Thanks.

I'll wager he won't last till the end of the day.

Planterz, I didn't feel your original post was totally out of line. Maybe a little abrupt and rude, but it's understandable. You're apology was more then what was required, and a very nice gesture. He's being an ass. Ignore him.

First, you don't have anyone's IP address.

Second, it's painfully obvious "Tachyon" is a second account created by you.

You're way out of line.
