Why Auto's and not bali's

What do you think is the main reason auto's are more accepted than bali's?

  • Too much negative portrayal by the media (films and/or TV).

I feel that bali's are less accepted than auto's from shear thoughtlessness. Let each man use the tool that suits him without being held in contempt, for his actions may be well thought out. Be it a hammer, needle, or bali.

How can you dislike a bali or an auto ?

Thant ain't no bendy butterknife...

I selected "Other".
I think that individuals that "use" knives do not feel that a balisong is a "user". Most models have blades over 4 inches. This is a little large for a EDC and not required for most cutting tasks. There is a lot of play in the blade when compared to the solid lock up of a quality auto. For a solid user, most "knife users" would select a small fixed blade or medium folder first, a "quality" auto second.
I was, and still am, into quality autos. I only recently became interested in balisongs and now have something else to drain my wallet. I must say that I am enjoying the bali's more. My son and I are learning together and having a blast. It doesn't take much skill to push a button on a auto.
For "sheeple" (non knife people), they will put auto's and bali's in the same "criminal" class. Only bad guys use those. I would be discreet when opening either in public.
Also want to say thanks to everyone here on the forum, I have learned a lot and will keep on reading and flipping.

I'll chalk it up to good old-fashioned laziness. What kid (or, adult for that matter) has the time to learn how to properly manipulate a balisong when an auto is just "PUSH-CLICK!".
I prefer the clicking of my 42, to be honest with you. :D:D:D

I posted "other". I don't think auto's are any more accepted than Bali's are. And it is the media (movies, press etc) that has given them a bad name.

BTW: Though I do have mostly Auto's, I have become quite competent with Balisong's over the years, in fact, I can't wait for the Nemesis Blade Tachyon! :D

on one side i think people should not so much fear them and give'em a try. when i first picked one up i got hooked and can't ever put'em back down. hell, i can't even watch tv without my 47 in hand. but on the other side, to me if everyone had a bali and was good at using them, they would lose their splendor. it's almost like a taboo of sorts. maybe it just me but i'd want to be good at something that everybody else is afraid of.
