Why BladeForums.com doesn't ship overseas...

Hey guys!

We just got word today that the USPS EMS service lost another package to an overseas customer today. That makes 4 now.

To date, we've had to eat the cost of 4 Sifus and 4 Blue Natives and some other items. In knives alone, that's over $1500, something that we, as a small website cannot afford to lose.

The post office is being singularly uncooperative in responding to our claims.

So, we will no longer ship to foreign countries. If you live overseas, and you want something we sell, you'll have to wire transfer the money to us first, then we will ship out the package. If the package does not make it to the destination whether through customs or the vagaries of international mail, that is your responsibility.

We've done everything we could to be accomadating to our overseas customers, however at this point we've lost more money than we've made by servicing them. This isn't your fault, but please accept this reason for why we are no longer shipping overseas.

The USPS is unreliable and unwilling to deal with problems even under the best circumstances. I have found that when shipping items oversees, that UPS is actually not a bad way to go. They ship to almost all corners of the globe, provide at least the illusion of tracking your parcel along its entire route and the price difference is not all that bad.

Spark,

I thought you've already announced a couple of months back, that you won't be using EMS as a shipping method to overseas customers anymore? and that you'll only be using UPS as the only method? What happened??

Christmas is the WORST time to ship anything overseas. That's when most of those itchy fingers do their best work.

We're still getting overseas order requests, and people requesting EMS. Heck, we *just* got a chargeback on a package that we shipped this summer (and apparrently cleared Taiwanese customs on Nov. 1)

We've been bending over backwards to try to make everyone happy but it's clearly not working, and is costing us a lot of money.

Spark, by overseas, do you mean that literally or figuratively? I live in Canada and wonder am I considered overseas?

By overseas, I mean any country that is not the US, that doesn't have actual USPS employees delivering USPS mail.

That includes Canada and Mexico. We've had packages go missing in Canada as well...

Hmm, my last post didn't show, let's try this again. Spark, I'm in Canada, does that mean I'm overseas?

Mike: On the domestic USPS front, I just received my "free" Sebertool. Neat!! Couldn't you find a bigger box, tho'?

I almost couldn't find the tool for all the "Styro-nuts". Thanks.

I've been in international business for 24 years now, and if anyone needs something sharp shipped overseas (except bayonets or daggers due to licensing issues), and to prohibited countries (you all know which ones, right? If not ask me.), I would be happy to assist from a simple consultation (by e-mail please as my time is stretched as it is) to handling the transaction (ie. taking the $ risks) for a reasonable commission on the sale in case I bite the big one and have to pay out for a confiscated or non-delivered package.

Believe me this offer is made totally because I'm crazy about the folks in this forum, and if a bit of my expertise can help anyone, just give the word.

Cool Barnaby thanks for the offer. You could act as broker if you like. I think however that the effort would far outstrip the rewards.

As for the boxes the USPS was out of the small video boxes we normally use. And those are not peanuts, they are ghost turds

I saw a package of them a while back. Man people can sell anything

Sorry for asking, do we have insurance for every package? If the package is lost, when we can ask our money back from post office? Because I just encountered the same situation, somebody sent me a $300 knife and it never shows up after one month. He sent the package via U.S.P.S priority mail and I live in Taiwan.
Thanks for your answer.

Spark, that last para wouldn't be referring to my shipment, would it?

He could be referring to my order, too. Some misbegotten son-of-a-bi*** at USPS, Canada Customs or Puralator Courier is now the proud owner of a stolen Blue Native and neck sheath. Might be time to get a postal box in NY State.

Hello everybody,

I did import MANY things from the US since
more than ten years. Every single item reached me within due time with just two exceptions:
One shipment was a month late due to mixing up Switzerland and Swaziland by UPS.
The only thing that NEVER made it was the
catalog from *Knifecenter*, which I do believe was charged but never shipped. Anyway, whenever asking for shipment date
& so, I NEVER GOT ANY RESPONSE.
(maybe someone made a quick buck?)

I do NOT hesitate to order from "overseas".

Greetings D. U.

I'm a Canadian. After several decades of receiving shipments from all over the world I've had very few packages not arrive at all. Ironically, the only one in recent memory that never arrived was a recent alleged shipment from Busse sent by US mail.
Spark, I presume you will ship to Canada if the Canadian pays the insurance, if insurance is available. Will you ship to Canada if it goes UPS or Fedex and the Canuck pays the difference between the UPS or Fedex charge and the US mail cost?

Spark, does that include the front page prizes? Just curious

I thought I was using the safest way to get my knives: order with CC, have it sent to my friend currently in US, he delivers the item for me...

Well, this is not true any more. I had 5 knives sent to my friend in TX and she took them home for me. Her luggage was open during the transport (Lufthansa Airlines) and almost all Christmas presents were stolen (they fortunately did not notice the box with my knives). I was lucky this time - but what means of transportation should I use next time???
