Why Busse?

User's perspective, ok. I trust my life and the lives of my family to the reliability and durability of select pieces of INFI. How many other things can you honestly put your trust in that way? A harsh reality is that money is just a less than sufficient measure of how your irreplaceable life energy/time has been spent here to get the money which won't buy you more time on this planet... what better to spend it on than a tool that can prevent you from losing your life? Who wants to be that guy cussing his "good cheap knife" that broke when he needed it most when he could have cried once over buying a Busse then use it just once to live long enough to go make more money? There are plenty of other ways to save money: pickup aluminum cans, sell plasma or other parts of your body, work more, eat/drink less, get a raise or higher paying job, etc. If you want something bad enough, you can find a way to obtain it within your limitations. ;) These replies are good for all readers asking the same thing, not just the op.

He offended a moderator in another forum. Nuff said.

Gee imagine that. Just joins and starts a controversial thread then goes elsewhere and gets banned. LOL. From the few posts he did here it was obvious he had no intention of having a discourse of any kind. The definition of TROLL

Yes...we love that INFI don't we! Carrying my TGLB today...just looking for something to make into little somethings.

Jerry runs a good business, and puts out a good product.

I received a knife that wasn't up to my standards once (lots of people around here remember the SAR3's), and when I sent it back it was sharpened by Jerry himself to make sure it was right.

A silly little forum contest a while ago, and Jerry sent me two FREE knives that he was selling for around $500 as a pair just for figuring out a little word jumble.

I've never seen Jerry do things that I have seen other makers do when it comes to warranty claims. I'm not going to name names or point fingers, but on more than one occasion I've seen someone's lifetime warranty become a finger-pointing fest where the maker tells his customer they weren't using their knives properly or they have too high of expectations.

Is every Busse perfect for use? No. Some of them are ergonomically inappropriate for my uses... they just don't fit my hand well, or they are unwieldy. But some are perfect.

And the steel is great. INFI, 3v, and SR101 make up the blades of almost every knife in my cabinet, and I don't own any knives that don't get used (except knives where I like my user so much that I bought a spare, just in case). Give me a CABS, RMD, 1311, Boss Jack/Street, ASHBMLE... any of those, and others.

I use mine. A lot. And if I decide I'm done with one? It still retains its value even though it is used.

That's why.

You've gotten a few comments pointing out the technical and practical characteristics of Busse knives and no doubt will get more and someone may also mention how Busse, the man and the company, are excellent to deal with and reliable. I can vouch for that having dealt with them for many years.
I uust wanted to add that I love both production and custom knives and tend to use rather than just collect them. When i want a hard use knife I can count on Busse is usually my choice. I used to do a fair bit of wilderness camping mostly either whitewater canoeing in Northern Canada or ocean kayaking. I used to use Cold Steel (Carbon V Trailmaster) but found it left a great deal to be desired in several respects ( terrible handle for heavy work, terrible corrosion resistance, not great blade geometry). I turned to Busse,( Battle Mistress, Steelheart ) and it does everything extremey well ( except kitchen work ). Very, very good in the field, and they are also beautiful, at least to my eye. Drawbacks? Sure. Very expensive for a production knife, not very fast in the hand and not great for the kitchen. The closest equivalent, in my untechnical personal opinion, are Fehrmans which use 3V, an awesome steel, but you have to be careful because it doesn't like corrosion.
When i ordered my first two Busses way back when Jerry used to ride dinosaurs to work they were "lost" in the mail. and were replaced with no problems by Busse very quickly. I appreciated that and never forgot it.

IMHO it comes down to personal choice and preference, and price sensitivity. It doesn't have to be a Busse and there are many great choices out there, but if you choose Busse you will have a great knife you can depend on. That's good enough for me.

How bout this reason....because it's a damn good looking knife and I want one! Done-

Speaking of the resale value, I already have mine sold if I don't like it. Was offered what I paied. Also stepped into the world of Busse kin last night. Can't wait to get that one.

Has anyone mentioned that they are just THE MOST FREAKING COOL KNIFE YOU WILL EVER HOLD! I like the NMFSH and when I hold that knife it feels like A MILLION BUCKS! No other knife I have ever held does that!
