You've gotten a few comments pointing out the technical and practical characteristics of Busse knives and no doubt will get more and someone may also mention how Busse, the man and the company, are excellent to deal with and reliable. I can vouch for that having dealt with them for many years.
I uust wanted to add that I love both production and custom knives and tend to use rather than just collect them. When i want a hard use knife I can count on Busse is usually my choice. I used to do a fair bit of wilderness camping mostly either whitewater canoeing in Northern Canada or ocean kayaking. I used to use Cold Steel (Carbon V Trailmaster) but found it left a great deal to be desired in several respects ( terrible handle for heavy work, terrible corrosion resistance, not great blade geometry). I turned to Busse,( Battle Mistress, Steelheart ) and it does everything extremey well ( except kitchen work ). Very, very good in the field, and they are also beautiful, at least to my eye. Drawbacks? Sure. Very expensive for a production knife, not very fast in the hand and not great for the kitchen. The closest equivalent, in my untechnical personal opinion, are Fehrmans which use 3V, an awesome steel, but you have to be careful because it doesn't like corrosion.
When i ordered my first two Busses way back when Jerry used to ride dinosaurs to work they were "lost" in the mail. and were replaced with no problems by Busse very quickly. I appreciated that and never forgot it.
IMHO it comes down to personal choice and preference, and price sensitivity. It doesn't have to be a Busse and there are many great choices out there, but if you choose Busse you will have a great knife you can depend on. That's good enough for me.
