Why can I just not find a replacement for my Izula?

Nothing has replaced my Izula. There have been a few days I carried something else, but I went back to the Izula. Have to change it up every now and then. The Izula is still a perfect knife for its' size. At least in my opinion.

I love my Izula as well. I have yet to find something that compares to it, including price. As Bigfatts stated, the makers area will have plenty of good alternatives at very reasonable prices. Plus you can contact one of them and ask about a custom knife that fits everything you are looking for.

+1

You can get some very nice small fixed blades from a custom maker for around $100. After I started buying them, I never went back to my Izula

I got a 10'' piece of O1 yesterday (1.2510, that's O1, right?), 3/16'' thick, used the Izula as model but added a glas breaker pommel, left out the finger guard and gave it a chisel grind.
I will now cut it out, put the grind on it and send it to a knifemaker for heat treatment.
We'll see how this turns out.

I've considered an Izula but there were some subtle changes that I would like made. I've found a few by TOPS that I'm interested in. I mention them in this thread because they have a big variety of models in the size range of the Izula and they are not very expensive.

The izula is a great knife, my pocket or neck small fixed blade for the woods time,
I've even had a custom one made at some point, with the early izula prototype grind, but from hss, and not even that one could beat my preference towards the original...:D:D , so i sold the copy later on.

If the little hole at the bottom of the edge is what bothers you, couldn't you just take the edge off to be even with the bottom of that hole and resharpen it? Looks like an hours work maybe. Much less if you can lay hands on a belt sander.

The only thing that will replace my Izzy is the 440C Izzy I will get when they come out. I also have TKC G10 scales on mine and I like it a lot more than I do a cord wrap.

You guys are costing me money. :p My wife was reading through the threads with me a little while ago, and she suddenly insisted that I buy her an Izula. I didn't realize what a popular knife it is until today. ESEE is her favorite company since I bought her a 6 for her birthday a couple years ago. What can I say she's got good taste...so I ordered her the desert tan with a personalized laser engraving from Knifeworks.

I can't complain at all really, because she helped me finally order the Fallkniven NL3 that I've been drooling over for so long. Wives who like knives are cool.

I've been carrying this little knife on me every day for the past two years. It fits perfectly in the front pocket, you barely realize it's there because it has no handles, you can comfortably hold it in any grip and the blade size is sufficient for 99% of the everyday tasks of a knife. Not to forget the great sheath.

What I don't like about the knife is the skeletonized handle, the choil (just a design thing IMO) and it could be slightly beefier.

Have any of you found a valid replacement for it?

Thanks guys
There is a simple reason why it hasn't been replaced- you can't improve upon a nearly perfect design. I passed on the chance to get one at dealer cost a few months back when I had to cash for one, and regretted it since. Look at getting either custom scales or (don't quote me on this one) getting scales from ESEE. Don't count the knife out when there are just a few minor things holding it back, especially when those things are pretty easily remedied.

it is pretty much the perfect EDC fixed blade, isn't it?
That's why I wouldn't deviate much from the original design if I had a custom made.

I like the Izula I better than the II because I have fairly small hands and the handle on the I fills my hand perfectly. I like handles that barely fill the hand, I think it gives you more gripping options.

That custom version looks good, jacktrades, thanks for sharing.

No, this is my favourite and likely the most useful small knife that I own. I have a couple and always seem to find them in my hand. I'm speaking of the Izula 2 though.

I like the Esee micarta scales on the Izula.

I've put several coats of Meguiar's carnauba car wax on the handles and they still give plenty of grip but clean up easy and don't stain. Put it on the sharpened edge of the blade too and it prevents rusting under most use.
