Why Can't I get a Kershar or ZT at the PX or Clothing Sales?

I know for a fact that they sell Kershaw's and Zero Tolerance knives at MCXs. I have seen shelves of leeks and shallots.
The ZT knives tend to be pricier than what the average patron is going to spend on knives, they typically have ZTs behind the glass at the firearms counter due to the price. They don't sell many folders like the 300 series, but they sell 200s, and I have seen several of the fixed blades.

I have seen Kershaw products at the BPX before. Never seen ZT but it's been a while since I looked. Most of us that carried knives over $200 ordered them online.

Ordering online sounds like the best option. I guess these stores don't assume that if someone has $250+, they might spend it on a knife? Shame, really. I think the reason they might offer Gerber more often would be affordability, along with the fact that they offer an official "military line." Kershaw only offers one "military knife." Unfortunately, it sounds like its all about advertising. Perhaps a small nudge by Kershaw in the direction of these PX stores would do the trick? From their standpoint, Gerber is offering an entire line of Military knives; Kershaw is not.

sucks enormous donkey balls.

i've NEVER seen a Kershaw/ZT in Iraq or Afghanistan. You can get Gerbers, which are shite in comparison, but no really "good" knives. Stateside either.

morons. there HAS to be a kickback somewhere...

It's called "lowest common denominator". Only a handfull are knowledgable of what comes with a "good" knife

I've seen a lot of good blades down range. I doubt any came from the PX though. Sounds like the Marines may have better access in the MX

In defense of the MCX/PX selection; If I have a PFC who is taking in like $700 a paycheck, trying to buy a car, has never budgeted for himself, has a penchant for losing gear, but needs a knife (or any other hard use tool), I would counsel against spending half his paycheck on a $300 knife, that would stand a good chance of disappearing to sticky fingers or the missing gear gremlin. If I found out said PFC spent half his paycheck on a knife, I would definitely counsel him on managing his money.
I am not saying that I would counsel against a good knife, but I would definitely steer them toward a more reasonably priced tool that would not be felt as hard when it goes missing.
I am not a high speed operator, I am in the low speed high drag mechanized community of Amphibians (YAT YAS if you're tracking). I personally carry a ZT 0300st, because it is a tank and can take a beating. In addition to my ZT I also carry a Gerber multi-tool (I have no idea what model) because with the mechanical nature of my job I like to have ready access to screwdrivers, pliers, etc..
That's just my humble opinion though.

I'm fine with the px having more cost effective knives as I remember that pitiful E-3 paycheck. However, I think it would be appropriate for them to carry a few medium to high end factory blades for those of us who appreciate the finer things in life. Not high speed/low drag any more myself and don't get a chance to go to the field much but I still like a good blade.

This is the correct answer. I've lost more Gerbers on more continents that most people ever travel too. Several of them out the door of a Slick. Tired, greasy, several times covered with blood. I was happy to have my ass let alone an expensive folder.

Used to work at the PX in Pax River, while I was there all I had ever seen them carry were Gerber and a few items from KABAR. I go back occasionally to check on the place and they've broadened their selection (slightly) to carry SOG and Spyderco but there doesn't seem to be any love for the ZT/Kershaw lines. As a previous poster mentioned if enough people request them or demonstrate interest in a particular brand and/or model, the managers will pass the word up the ladder. May not get a huge selection as a result but you may get a few new offerings.

Please tell me you are kidding.

I could be wrong, but less than 1% of the population of the USA has served in the military, so knowledge of US military life is not necessarily commonplace. No manufacturer can force a vendor to sell their products, while they can refuse vendor's purchase orders, and they frequently place minimums on orders, so demand really does drive the supply.
