BladeForums has the potential to be the greatest for something else....A current market price guide but instead people force everyone to go to other sites (worthpoint, eBay, Facebook, etc)
Everyone deletes the price of sold items......worried to tell ppl u sold too low or too high? Lol
I think it would help the industry much more knowing current selling values and what better place than here ....if everyone wasn’t so quick to delete theirs prices which is really odd.
Keep pricing and collectibility up
This will help you see what the market will bear without being crazy high

Just my opinion
If guys aren’t looking here they are just going to other sites to look which its better to keep them from moving around for all of BF

You make a good point. I like to see how much something was listed for and how quickly it was purchased. Many times I receive email notifications that for some reason have super large photos when opened in my mail box. I have to visit the site to be able to easily scroll down to see the price only to find SPF. It would be nice to consistently see the sale price if only to further my own knowledge. I would also add that I GREATLY APPRECIATE when a price is placed in the post title.

I find it interesting that many for sale threads omit critical info about materials (blade steel, handle material, lock mechanism etc.) expecting we somehow know these details, but people religiously remove the sale price immediately after sale. I agree it would be helpful to show the asking price.

I like to look at prices but not for the reason most people are interested in valuation from past sales. I just like to look and see if I missed something I was looking for at a great price lol. In any case it can only be used a guide for an intial listing price as opposed to any meaningful price guide. You don't know what it sold for or what the individual situation was. Could list a knife for $400.00 in thread and actually sell it for half or take a partial trade. If I sell loveless worth thousands for $800.00 should that affect a value for the next seller of same knife? Just as if I get a great deal on a knife and decided to sell it down the line, I'm not obligated to sell it at the same under value price I purchased it for so... I like seeing prices left, but it does have limited value for research.

I'm with most and appreciate it a lot when a knife gets sold and they still leave the sale price up for everyone to see. I think this is the best way but I get why some delete it. What I also don't get is how some people are selling a knife on here for like 25% or more than what you can buy brand new from a legit website that has it in stock right now, lol.

This topic comes up every week in a new thread it seems.

While I am in the "leave the price" camp, I also am in the "search to see if this topic has been beaten to death 100 times in the last 10 years camp" as well.

We won't change this human behavior and the powers that be at the forum have not been moved to make a change to the forum rules in this regard.

And now, this thread is at the top of the list of previous threads on the issue:

We aren't selling and buying knives as a public service. AND - has been written repeatedly - the actual selling price is rarely reflected in the asking price in the thread. Lots of stuff happens behind the scene. Sorry - that's just the way it will be.

lol, your absolutely right beaten to death like so many other topics
PayPal, F&F, add 4 % on buyers, international shipping, who's responsible for lost or damaged shipments and insurance, paying in full for custom knives not yet made. The list goes on for beaten to death topics that people ignore the facts and advice anyway. Admittedly though when I'm bored it does make for some entertaining reading

You can set up email alerts for new posts in the sales forums, which will give you a record of the original asking price.

From the Exchange rules.

SECTION 3 - Rules for Everyone -
8. Sellers can keep or delete the prices in their thread, it is their prerogative.

Thread closed.

I have over 800 knives
I know most current market values
However I leave BladeForums to do my research. I like to know current market trends.
It also allows me to get more many times.
I like to just watch it because the knife market is worse than the stock market but if more people kept sale prices up it would not hurt the market, it would help. As most go by what knives are currently selling at.
It’s critical in buying collections
If I can show mr Jones multiple sellers have listed prices of $200 then I can acquire that knife below that price range
I use eBay for this constantly

Only ones that have a problem with my theory are those that think for some reason making the market more knowledgeable is bad

That’s not very true
Take the last 50 knives posted
I bet the vast majority sold for posted price or within 15%

Education to newcomers is very important and anyone that thinks otherwise isn’t a very good example of a true collector. I’ve had many mentors and been a mentor to many, BladeForums is just that....another mentor

I'm with most and appreciate it a lot when a knife gets sold and they still leave the sale price up for everyone to see. I think this is the best way but I get why some delete it. Those are the ones unwilling to keep price posted and quick to put down this idea

They are bad for the industry of knife collectors. They had mentors and help but decide not to be good mentors and pay it forward with education as well.
I’ve been many times and had many times a mentor

Quoted “a lot of stuff”

It’s ok
I didn’t need to search to put my opinion out there. Im qualified enough to search but only for things I feel like I need to see others opinion lol. I search for knives not opinions.

Just sharing my views and my responses instead of reviving someone else’s
Also this way I get new comers hopefully

If you want to "Collect and Sell" you'd better know the market. That's earned by putting in the time and effort.

I do collect and sell
I guess you’re too smart to have had a mentor or searched the market for pricing? That’s odd
You don’t “know” the market. It changes. You have to follow. And if you didn’t realize by market, that means $$$ value. Only way to know value is to search sales and only way to see values is search places where values are listed
