Why did i buy it? Regret thread

I have those expensive ones too, need to just not be afraid to use some of them…..did you catch that? Some Of them. :) It is a learning thing too, some regular knives are used more than others, and a 25.00 Buck Slim will cut just as well as my GEC knives, and not afraid to use, GEC I would be afraid to lose it.

CRK Sebenza 31

I would hate to see everyone pile on just you, so I'll add the CRK Impinda for me.

I bought an mnandi with box elder about a week ago...as soon as i took it out of the box and realized how small it is i regretted it immediately. Tried to give an excuse to myself that it's nice when i'm somewhere dressed more formally than usual ...but i didn't buy it!
Subjective opinion here of course, but 435 USD for that thing.....just no. I prefer my ferrum forge gent CF for these, admittedly, rare occasions.

I was a bit underwhelmed with the sebenza as well. I got a large plain drop point one, i could immediately tell that it's a well made folder and great utilitarian design, but nothing that i couldn't live without.

The one i regret selling is the original Ratmandu with black micarta (which looked more blue than black and i really liked it), sage coating and a nice custom kydex sheath in digital camo...😔

This ^^^^ is exactly my feeling these days .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I Didn't start out that way ;but finally realized I derived MUCH more enjoyment ,from my user / beater / carry knifes, than from the safe queens , that I could only gently fondle . 😏
What caused me to be this way is I dropped a beloved Sebenza once on a concrete sidewalk. It bounced and skidded a bit. I immediately felt sick to my stomach but after picking it up and inspecting it, I found only very minor damage. I guess I got very very lucky that it didn’t suffer any major dings but that incident caused me to hardly ever carry the knife again unless it was in the house and on carpet. I eventually sold the Seb since I hardly used it but I got to missing it and have bought and sold several after it. I just can’t bring myself to carry an expensive knife anymore. I’m much happier carrying my Kershaw Leek or other similarly priced knife. Lately I’ve been carrying a multitool as my primary blade source.

My formal knife is either a sage 2 or a spidichef. Classy and nearly invisible with the wire clip, or so I tell myself.... 😂

I have some minty SHFs that only get fondled. Primarily I carry a user Talos or Mordax or some flavor of ZT.

I regret a lot of purchases…

Kershaw Reverb: terrible, terrible Walmart knife, neither good to use or to play with.

WE Upshot and Seer: not bad knives, just boring,

CRK Inkosi Insingo: I hated it. If you like the style, good for you, but I just simply didn’t like it.

SBD Apex: really the clip did it in for me. Above a certain price point I start to get very picky about what knives I keep, and the pokey clip on the Apex made me never carry or use it. Other than that, fantastic knife.

When I got into knives I opened a couple of display cases in the local gun store and filled them with about $9000 of Case brand knives. I thought I would never get rid of those things! I sold many of them on ebay
at dealer cost just to clear the inventory. It seems most of the gun guys want to purchase nothing but "tactical" knives. I say, give them what they want.

Only 2 knives I regret buying was benchmade bugout and 940.

Felt cheap, and the edge was butter knife dull, when I sharpened, the bevels were all over the place. Like a drunk guy at the grinder.

I regret giving one away, kizer begleiter 2. Very nice knife for the price, he lost it a year later.

I know just what you mean. I had this Benchmade Mini Crooked River in 20cv that I absolutely loved, until I dropped it on concrete, and a piece of the stabilized-wood handle scale broke off, in the thin little spot behind the lanyard hole. I knew after that, that I wouldn't be able to really EDC it with any regularity, since I'd have to worry about damaging it all the time, even with new scales. I eventually got some bronze scales for it, but still never EDC'd it, as I'd gotten a Hogue/Ritter Mini RSK which stood up to my abusive work much better, despite ostensibly being made of the same stuff.

Lesson learned. Now, I only look to spend extra $$$ on stuff that will last a long time of daily use, preferably relatively inexpensive, with high quality steels in the blade, either coming with metal handle scales, or having aftermarket metal scales available.

vwb563 vwb563 Dropping your CRK should have been what set you free & let you make it a user.
I hear ya. I wish I could have felt that way. I guess where it only sustained very minor damage I felt like I got lucky and was afraid to take any more chances with it. It was an older sheath only P model made before the pocket clip addition.

I've been eyeballing a Marfione Custom. I'm pre-regretting that purchase. Should make the real regret easier to stomach when the time comes.

I've had my benchmade grizzly creek for 5 years. Was always my weekend knife. I recently started carrying it to work and dropped it, broke off a piece of the scale. I just superglued it back and made a mental note that that benchmades now my beater. I also drive my nice truck through thick stuff dragging trees and throw all my hunting stuff and tools on top of the leather seats.

Enjoy the nice stuff, but enjoy it while you use it for what it's for.

Probably my biggest let-down was the Spyderco Szabo folder. It had atrocious action and uncomfortable ergonomics.

I’m glad I’ve been a gun guy forever, reading through this thread has definitely been educational. Lolol

I don't if you're familiar with the movie "fear and loathing in Las Vegas" but this reminded me the scene in which they are high on ether and they tell each other to act normally, while of course they're moving like they're having a stroke or something 😁
