Why did the Blade Discussion Forum main window get too wide to fit on my screen?

It did this a day or two ago. Spark, explain it if you know the answer; then I'll delete the thread. Sure wish it would still fit.

Bill:

check to see if it happens on all threads or only some. if it only happens on certain topics, it is because someone posted a really long URL or a really wide picture. that will widen the window real estate for the entire thread.

if it happens on all threads, then hopefully Spark has an answer for you. i'm a sysadmin but Spark's the UBB Master

Only way that could happen is if you are running a 640x480 monitor. If thats the case, then the table at the top may be causing that overlap, I'll shrink it down a tad.

Thanks Spark. You fixed it. It was the table that was too wide. Now it's OK. Thanks again. Delete this thread now if you like.

I had noticed the same trouble the last couple of days, but you have fixed it now.

Thanks

Hi Spark just thought I would saay that I have the same problem with some of the post one in perticular is the post"Best lightweight fixed blade?" it is just to big to fit on my screen without scrolling it around very hard to read that way is it normal for some post to be that way?

If you have to post long URL's, make them a short link.

Read the UBB code to do this and prevent screen scrolling.

Sorry about the long link widening your screen guys, it wraps when I use MS Internet Explorer 5.0 and does not widen the screen. I tried it with the obsolete Netscape product and I see how it causes problems.

By the way Spark, the comment posting page (the thing I'm typing into now) does not work correctly with IE5.0 since the last big website update. It used to show previous comments at the bottom of the page in both Netscape and Internet Explorer. Now it only shows the comments in Netscape. Do you know of any switches to apply at your end or the user end to fix that?

Hmmm, it works with NS, and should have worked all along with IE.

It depends on the threads and some other stuff, but all the switches are turned on here, so you should be seeing it.

I usually use IE5. When I am typing a post I cannot see the other comments, unless I open a new window with the thread in it and then toggle over to it, for instance when I want to remember who to address a specific comment to.

I used to be able to see the rest of the comments if I scrolled down.

The previous posts show up though what's known as "inline frames". We have that option turned on. I don't know why it suddenly wouldn't work for you, but it's working for both myself and Mike, and we use NN and IE respectively.

Maybe something is set different on your computer.

Hmm... weird. Are you guys scrolling down? When I first switched from Netscape to IE 5, I also thought that I couldn't see previous posts when I wrote a reponse. The problem was that I could only see the advertisement banner at the bottom of the screen. This banner is actually at the top of the inline frame and you can just scroll down to see the rest of the page.

I just looked at this thread in IE 5 (for the first time), and yes, the thread is there, it's just at the bottom.

The scrolling box you see with the advertising banner inside of it is what's known as an inline frame, a framed view of a page that has been incorporated into another page (Instead of the typical frames views which has pages next to each other).

Just scroll down and you'll see the thread, unless it's too long, in which case all you will see is a link that will take you back to the thread.

Thanks Spark,

I see it now. Cute, but confusing. I guess it works better that way--once you understand it.
