I was on the HI website and tried to out a chitlange and sirupate in my order box and noticed that once ther the price increased from what the web page displaying the item is showing. For instance the sirupate is showing 135 for 18 inch model but once I click on order it changes to 140.00 likewise the chitlange is listed 125.00 but once you click order it goes to 145.00 I was under the impression that shipping was included in price. Can anyone explain?

Hello Jamal,

If you search some of the stickies and forum...you will see that the HI website, and even the DOTD bargains do not include shipping. $20 for an 18" Chitlangi sounds about right to me. Buy the Chitlangi, I have one 21" and it is awesome!

I think Yangdu raised some prices, and I don't know if the store includes shipping in the price or not (the DOTD do not).

The web site hasn't been updated in ages, as I think most of her sales come from this forum. Best thing to do is email her with what you want and get an official quote. She returns emails very quickly unless she's on vacation.

Technical Difficulties.......:D
The site was put together by a forumite for Uncle Bill years ago and we are having some problem trying to edit The HTML portion of the site. Aunt Yangdu has done the best she can to put in the correct price and thats why it changes at checkout. As for the shipping. Free shipping is no longer included in the price AFAIK, but i may be mistaken.

This is something i was going to contact Auntie Yangdu about in the morning to see if we could get this corrected.
The prices shown currently at checkout are the current and correct price and hopefully we will be fixing this problem ASAP.

I apologise for any inconvienience and confusion this has caused. Please Bear with us.

I didn't want to ask earlier when she first did it, but since you are trying to update things, could HI go back to including the shipping in the price, and simply raise the whole price to reflect the increase?

I will talk to her about it, but i can't promise anything.
I hate to say it, but a price increase has become necessary due to inflation of everything in todays economy. All in all the increases we've seen are quite modest. Auntie needs to make a living and care for the business and Kami's.

Thanks for all the answers. This is one of the main reasons I am purchasing from HI. This type of loyal fan base only comes with a top notch product. I will be ordering either a chitlange or sirupate when I get my next check. I want the 18 inch model looking for a handle 4-5 inches with a blade 12-15 inches. I like the thinne blades that can pierce well along with being able to chop. I have medium to small hands as a reference a cold steel kukri machete handle feels just about perfect in size. For those who have these style blades sirupate and chitlange are the handles similar in size?

Dunno, the bad thing about including shipping is you can't get a shipping discount for buying multiple blades at once. Unless you can, I guess.

Also are these models stick or full tang

Are there pics on the site? Just a guess because I am really new to Khukuri's but I would think if there are pins in the handle they are full tang. Someone please correct me if this is not correct.

Ghurka to it.I did not care for the traditional look at first but I have been convinced. One the first things I do wen I get home is check out the D.O.T.D and the exchange.I am in no hurry and am being patient.I will however own one soon and maybe more after i get my first.

Generally, the Sirupate and Chitlange khukuri are made made with the Hidden Tang. auntie refers to these as full tang because they are a "stick" or "rat-tail tang that is peened at the buttcap for security. The full tang you refer to, we call Chiruwa here.
H.I.'s hidden tang models are the beefiest you will find on the market. I can count only very few failures of them in the past and it was due to overhardening of it by the kami, usually during dashein festival time. They are almost as tough as the Chiruwa model.

Usually the handles on H.I. khukuri are made larger than most all nepali khukuri, specifically to fit american sized hands. I also have smaller hands and i find that most 15" models to fit quite nicely, YMMV. The 15" model sounds like what you are seeking.
The best thing you can do is send an Email to HIMIMP@aol.com with your required specifications and Auntie Yangdu can look and see if she has anything that will fit the bill.

Lets avoid confusion and use the Chiruwa designation , please.:)
But you are correct... If it has pins in the handle it is the chiruwa model. If it does not have pins it is the hidden tang model.

In my opinion a chitlange is hands down the better choice over a sirupate both esthetically and for use. Unless weight is a big factor since the siru is usually lighter though still much heavier than a CS machete (the spine is thicker for one). The handles are the same length but the chit has a bigger bell at the pommel. In any case, I'd get a 21" OAL model if you are over 5'9" or so.

I forgot about that, I think that was the objection to the idea the last time.

Karda, I have no problem with her raising prices. I'm surprised it took this long for her to do so.

But there's been a lot of questions about it lately, and it seems HI has gained a reputation over the years by including shipping in the prices. I figure that this would ease up on her having to answer the same question, if she gets emailed about it a lot, and people rarely read the stickies.

Plus, if one orders several knives, so what? It's just a little extra she can send to the kamis or put away to pad for lean times.

If guys have a problem with paying a few extra bucks here and ther, I suggest they look more closely at how these are made, and how well Yangdu takes care of them compared to other companies in Nepal. There's nothing different with what the kamis do than what a custom maker here does when they pound out a dozen of a given model and put them up for sale. Any way you cut it, you are getting a custom blade at a good price.

Even with the price increase and the addition of shipping charges, H.I. is the only khukuri for me.

This is true for general use, but a properly made Sirupati of equal length would be a better fighter as it is lighter and quicker than the Chitlangi.

This is referring to the standard Chitlangi. The Panchthar and Dahraine Chitlangi variants are different; the Panchthar being much closer to a Sirupati and the Dahraine is pretty much on par with the Kobra model.

Welcome mct453!
I'm sure you will be happy with your decision to purchase from H.I.

I have confirmed it from Auntie : All USA sales from the store are listed with shipping included. All international sales must add international shipping.

Presently, we are working on getting the prices on the stores main page in line with the checkout price, to avoid any further confusion. Then we will update the H.I. website accordingly. If you have questions or need further assistance please Contact Auntie Yangdu or myself and we will do our level best to assist you.
