On my Dragonfly, the clip is actually extended from the FRN handle itself. It is not a separate piece. On my Cricket, the clip is stainless steel, attached to the FRN handle with screws. Why the difference? I'm curious.
The integrated clips are just an older design, I guess no one has updated the Dragonfly recently. If the old clip ever breaks off Spyderco just files down the handle and screws a metal clip right into the FRN. I have seen several Spydies this way.
Some people prefer the old clips because they don't scratch other objects as much if you rub against them, and they don't conduct heat, electricity, or attention (by being shiny). They are more easily broken which is why some people like the new ones better.
