Why do all folders have a jigged out area on one side?

Just wondering...I notice all of the larger folders have a thin cutout 'jig-line' on one side of the frame....what is the purpose of it?

Your going to have to show a picture, or be more specific. All my folders are the same on both sides.

A cut-out line like this kinfe for example (copied from the for sale section...I hope OP doesn't mind).

That is the blade lock,when the knife is opened it springs in to lock the blade.

If you mean the milled out "U" shaped section, that is to relieve some of the spring tension on the lock.

OK, frame lock. Without that cut out you wouldn't be able to unlock the blade with your thumb.

More like a friction folder. Slipjoints have a back spring.
