im asking because there are other steel in that price range, that we don't see as often.
you could spend 100$ on vg10 (albeit not wise) 20cv or 9Cr18M0V

Because S35VN is awesome.

I feel the same about S30V. Both were developed with CRK and user extensively in their knives, so I think association has some part in it. It's a good steel, but I like CTS-XHP better.

I agree. I don't like S30V

It's cheap and easy for manufacturers to get it, and it was designed to be easier to grind than S30V, so it also costs less to machine it.
