Why do I have to pee on my Edge Pro stones?

Ceramic stones, like sharpmaker rods clog, and lose efficiency when they do. Waterstones do not, but you do have to lap them. I don't mind lapping.

How do you lap your stones? If I could lap my own stones I would never leave my house. :D Sorry, I just couldn't resist the chance to make a lame joke.

But seriously, what's your procedure for lapping waterstones?

They sell a glass plate and some coarse abrasive. You soak stone, apply abrasive over the glass and basically sand the stone flat.
There's also ceramic blocks that do it and you could always use a coarse waterstone. I've heard of using a DMT X-Coarse to do it too

And sorry, I was referring to Ceramic in the traditon sense, a la Spyderco, etc

DGG Have you considered contacting Mr. Ben Dale via email or call him on the phone? Im sure he could awnser your questions much easier on a one to one basis.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I tried to find Mr. Dale's email address on his website and couldn't. He should have his own little forum linked in I think.

Currently if I'm planning on having a sharpening party on Saturday I stick my stones in a jar of water (does it have to be distilled? Can it have a little scotch in it (to kill germs.) so I'm ready the next morning. I don't think you can oversoak the stones and they seem fine.

It is interesting reading the thread how some wet the stones and then dry them out after they finish using them and some keep them wet all the time in a container with some bicarb or something to kill seaweed. Whatever works! I may have to buy a goldfish.
