Why do I need a necker?

I doubt I'd wear one around my neck. Just think they're cool and was curious how you guys used yours. If I did neck carry, I imagine layered clothes during cool weather would be the ticket. Then you could hide/secure it under your top layer for no bounce/swing. That would drive me bonkers having something getting in the way like that. I don't do neck ties either unless threatened!

I'm well acquainted with the mathematical formula for the correct number of knives: X + 1!

Rev astutely hit on need vs want. Great point. We are hopeless addicts in a sense. And these are luxury items for the most part.

But dang! The custom guys are putting out some cool looking stuff!

never neck carried a neck, I LOVE the CRK Professional Soldier
carry it usually when hiking or cycling, in the pocket, on a shoulder strap, on the bike

mostly coupled to a folder but also alone, strong, LIGHT, sharp, good to have that's it

Those Folts Minimalists caught my eye a while back. Nothing but hand and blade when in the hand.

What kind of biking do you do?

Funny thing... some hate them, some love them ! I think it's a handy way to carry a small plenty tough fixed blade. I have several, don't carry them all the time but carry them often. There are many very cheap but very efficient versions out there, so trying one won't cost you a leg. Then you'll know if it's a thing for you or not, at a minimal cost. And maybe, when your darling checks out the price you paid she will love you for being such a smart purchaser...

"Neckers" are flat-out COOL, baby! They're just as handy and even more easy to carry (more carry options) as a pocket-knife, but much stronger. What's not to like? :)

So I'm showing some neck-able models to my lovely wife, and she says "Hey I like those! I could wear that when I go for a walk and don't have pockets!"

Oh boy. I only had a little willpower to resist before that. I DID resist a beautiful, unique custom piece with not so much utility. But I succumbed to the lure of the Spyderco Swick. I've eyed these for a while and I can see 2 oz's of thin steel being good on a cord, my belt or in a bag.

So now to decide on the tiny details of cord or chain, breakaway connector for the neck cord, etc etc yada yada yada.

Suggestions from the experienced knife necklace wearers? Is one form of cord system "better" than another?

A ball chain is secure but not very pleasant to wear. A loop of paracord is comfy but not recommended for woodbumming or biking as it is stronger than your neck... A thin leather string could be best of both worlds for such a light necker. The Swick looks like a nice little knife. Pity it doesn't come with a sheath : carrying tip up is ideal but a good tip up sheath is difficult to find. The Boltaron sheath that comes with the Swick4 looks cumbersome for neck carry. If the retaining system is the same as on my Streetbeat then it's also not secure enough for neck carry.

I've got a Folks Minimalist, BHK Small Tiger Knapp and the ESEE Candiru, Izula and Izula II, have tried neck carrying but found it uncomfortable and never really carry them. Most of my daily knife needs are met with a couple folders - Spyderco Ladybug or Dragonfly and something a bit bigger like my Mini Grip, Caly 3/3.5 or usually my ZT0566.

Regarding the actual neck carry option, how about the ball chain in a piece of hollowed out para cord (internal strands removed) so you get the strength of the ball chain with the comfort of the paracord?

Heck, just show a pic of the Spartan Enyo... she'll say "OK you can get that one" (HEHE)

Yes, ball chain in a paracord envelope sounds good. Didn't try it yet but must do...

I got some feedback from guys who've carried the Swick 4, and they say there is no risk of the knife coming out when you don't want it to. Sounds very secure. Looking fwd to checking this out though as I have ZERO experience with synthetic sheaths. This little thing is only 2oz.

Yeah...the price tag sent me back to the sub $100 hunt, but this could be a new buying strategy!
