Why Do Militaries No Longer Produce Good Cutlery?

There is not much need for today's soldier to carry a knife, first.

Most knives that are issued are from the private sector. Personally I would hate to see what would happen if the military brass designed a knife. It would probably cost $10000 and have a 500 page manual.

This is crap, the military help to design many fine knives in the past, Ka-Bar, several stilettos, etc. But now the military just does not seem interested in fine cutlery. The enlisted go to the local store and buy the cheapest knives they can find!

Cordially,

BabyJWuu :)

I wouldnt use the knife they gave me anyway. If i was joining the army I'd get a strider or zt or something.

They would rather give somone a paid 99 weeks of laziness than give our soldiers everything they might need. politics. election buying. follow the money see whos vote there trying to buy.
I wish from the bottom of my heart that you lose your job soon.

Someone once said, "Always remember that your weapon was made by the lowest bidder.". This may be more of a joke saying than truth, but it would explain alot.

Not just weapons, but plenty of standard issue equipment falls under this saying. Not all of it is crap (though better stuff can usually be found), but some of it really is. Like those 2 D-cell green elbow flashlights.

Then there are the officers/NCOs who make a big deal over their people not having their standard issue junk on their person, no matter how terrible it is. Having a standard issue knife really only helps those who don't already own their own piece.

It was said that most soldiers don't know enough about steel to appreciate what is issued. I would personally hate my taxes going up for a soldier to carry a $250 knife, and he not even know what he has. The other side of me says equip the soldier with the best man-made products. However, if we all had this budgeting philosophy, we would all be living under bridges. JMHO
Ka-BAR..... cheap, QUALITY knives that get the job done.
