Why do people call CPM 154, 154V?

From all I've read, the new CPM 154 contains no Vanadium. It's merely a powder steel version of 154CM, alloywise. So, why do people call it 154V? Am I missing something here?

I'm wondering the same thing Danbo. I keep hearing makers claim it has "v" in it. Crucible metals tell me no. wishful thinking perhaps. If a makers wants vanadium, there are steels out there with it. Lets leave 154 to be 154. Mike

i think i remember reading in a blade mag that they had added a little V to it for grain refinment
but ive seen misinformation before in there so
as of right now and i had never heard of another sorce saing that there was V in it
butch

Yes I heard the same - during development they had tried some vanadium.

My last talk with Kerrie Kengor ,at Crucible, was that the formula is now established, and there is no vanadium. It was in the early batches.
