Why do people hate Spyderco?

Hi Marchone,

I'm curious as to why you would visit a Company sub-form for a product in which you have no interest?

First off, I don’t hate them and always wonder if anyone is going to come up with another reason to dislike them other than the Spidey Hole. I had one someone gifted me 25 years ago. I never bonded with it but keep on looking to see if one will. They had a fixed blade Waterway Salt model a while ago I liked but it’s out of production now. I generally find the handles to be too thin for my hands. Another bit that’s keeping me away is I can’t flip open a knife blade easily with a stud or a hole since having a stroke ten years ago. Flippers are my choice of blade ever since.

I love my Waterway LC200N. 🥰

It's the only Spydie in my collection that I actually use. Got it in a flash sale for just $100.

I use it in the kitchen mainly as a boning knife. It's super sharp & hasn't dulled yet.

I just wish they would go back to "proper" sized opening holes. The modern ones are often comically and needlessly (IMO) oversized. I have a very large Spyderco collection, so no hater I. ;)

Hi Sal,

Perhaps as a moderator you could limit participation in your sub-forum to Spyderco owners only. Keep out the riff raff.

Or, you could use constructive criticism to improve your products.

Then you end up with an echo chamber. Personally, I think more manufacturers should look into why consumers are not buying their products, instead of harassing their regular customers with endless surveys. If I’m buying your stuff, there’s a good chance you already have me hooked. It’s the people buying your competitors goods that you need to go after, not me.

Hello again.

I prefer not to limit information. I appreciate and respect all opinions, positive or negative. It's important in learning to try to catch the truth.

What's wrong with the flippers Spyderco has out right now? Wrong colour? Smells funny? Something constructive to add?
