Why do prices get removed after sales?

Long story short is the seller's prerogative to leave the price up or not. People like less rules not more.

I leave my price up, but don't think we need a rule for it, as its up to the seller. Some are asked by the buyer to take the price down.

? Unhelpful. NRA member?

What does the NRA have to do with this:confused:

What you fail to realize is that on posts with more than one item for sale that it is impractical to put "sold" on the title.

What you "fail to realize" is that "sold" can be put in the first line of the post, like this, "Sebenze has been sold. Becker is still available." When the reader lets his cursor rest on the title, the items that have been sold will show in the popup window. When all the items have been sold, then "sold" can be put in the title.

After reading the earlier discussion on this matter, I started leaving the prices in my sale threads for posterity, adding SOLD to the threads, and locking them. Like AKC, however, I've been receiving PMs and emails asking if knives I marked sold months ago are still available. It gets annoying...

Lou, what you fail to realize is that in short line it will say "sold" and no one will look at the rest, or it will be so far down the line. That wasn't event the point. The op said sold shouldn't be used, but prices should remain. Why? What business is it of yours what I sold my xxxx for two weeks ago and such. Btw Ferrari, the thread should be closed when all deals are complete.

Until there is a rule that compels the seller to leave the price, you'll see this choice exercised in different ways. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting on such a rule. :)
Interestingly enough, I just joined a firearm-centric forum that requires the prices to be left up.

For a while, I made a point of cruising the Exchange and quoting the entire ad while making a non-committal comment about the item for sale. I stopped that when the rules about chatting started getting tighter.

Been a member for 2 and half years and always thought that was the normal place to put sold so to let other members know that is was no longer available without having to search the thread

Maddogg what you "fail to realize is that" only the very dumb will fail to look at the rest of the post. The subject line will say, for example, "FS: Hinderer XM-24 and Accessories." After the knife is sold, the first line of the post would be changed to read, "XM-24 is sold, but the accessories are still available." One would have to be pretty stupid NOT to realize that there were still some items for sale in the post.

It's none of my business what you sold a knife for if you decide that it's not. I leave up prices so that people looking for information about knives that they own and are thinking of selling, will see what mine sold for (or what I purchased a knife for.) That will give them some idea of what their knife is valued at. If you don't want to be of service to the other members of the board, you don't have to be. I like providing that information. I think of this as a community and I like to support communities to which I belong. You are not required to do so.
