Why Do Steels Go Out Of Fashion?

BG-42 is a good steel, but S30V is too and easier on the manufacture to use, (and end user) so S30V wins... except hey S35VN is about the same and even easier on the manufacture to use, and so it evolves. With a niche niche here an a niche niche there to prove the exception.

It was the original version if I remember correctly. Or was it 440V?

The original release of the Military was a choice of either CPM440V or ATS34. Back in the day I had a serrated ATS34 Millie and still have the 440V plain edge. At the time Spyderco made the serrated versions out of ATS34 because they claimed they could not serrate the 440V.
