Why do you all remove the coating?

I don't mind the tactical look so much, but I could see the concern in an urban area at least. This thread reminded me I have to strip my 9 still. Sounds like a job for work tonight!

Well, I finally stripped my BK7.
Maybe someson should tell Ethan, that coating the blades is actually a waste of time.

He knows, but it's easier to take it off if you don't want it than putting it on if you do. Kind of like a reassignment surgery, right Flexxx?!

Ok, but who can hear anything with your damned Bon Jovi blaring in the s-10 cab?!

I really liked the coating on a couple of my KA-BARs, including the Bk2 and the Warthog. Unfortunately they didn't last. I've been doing some perfunctory research on OTC coating sprays, and as far as I can tell there's nothing available to the average Joe that matches the factory spray. Ideally I would find something even better.

Continuing to look....

i remove some of the coating on my blades to where it gives them a "worn, well used look". for 1, i like the way it looks and 2, people or should say "ignorant people" are less afraid of the knife if it looks worn or well used for some reason.

if i brought into work a small blade with the black coating still on it, people's eyes would widen a mile wide, and they would go off screaming, "he is going to kill someone!".

but when i bring into work a blade with one of my "worn/well used" looks, i get this sort of response, "oh he has a beat up knife, he's cool" :)
