why do you carry those knives?

Well, to be honest I really only use 2 of the three I carry.

The Victorinox Mini-Champ II is *always* useful. The ballpoint pen for obvious reasons. The small philips head for changing batteries in my son's toys, the nail file has it's obvious use as do the scissors. The two blades and "emergency" cutting tool are used at least twice a week. Let's not even get into the little bottle opener. :-) The one tool I can't figure out is basically just a long flat piece of metal with a head on it - one side of which is curved slightly outward.

Second is the Spyderco Dragonfly. Sheeple friendly one-hander. Opens mail, packages, cuts string and has even filled in as a parring(?) knife in the kitchen. It was the knife of choice Christmas day.

The third is rarely used, just carried more cause I like it. Lately the third slot has been filled with a serrated Outdoor Edge Impulse. So far I've used it to cut Kydex for a homeade sheath and I've used the front (secondary?) edge to scrap excess caulk from a sink I just installed.

I never would have started carrying a knife if it wasn't for the innovation of the pocket clip. I won't wear a sheath and a knife sitting in the bottom my pocket just gets in the way. As far as the kind of knife I carry; it is the Sebenza because it does all the things you carry a multiple of knives for.

With all the daily uses I find for a knife, I would have to ask "Why don't you carry a knife?".

Why do women carry purses? Why do you wear jewelry? Why do we shave (or not shave) our faces? Why do you drive a SUV instead of a car?

It usually boils down to a matter of personal preference. Could I get buy with out a daily carry...Probably. Do I want to....Definitely not. I enjoy having and using my knives.

My daily cary goes like this:

Spyderco rescue Jr. with stainless handles: All hard chores such as cutting hard plastic packages and packaging straps etc.

Benchmade Pinnacle: all chores that require a plain edge. rope, tags, scraping, etc.

Kershaw Random Task: Mostly because it is so much fun

also for those times when you need a blade opened FAST! it is so quick that you always want to go for it first.

Cold Steel Desperado: Defense. As far as I am concerned, this is the best defensive knife around. You have to hold it to understand this.

I want to cary more but I have no more pockets

I also cary a letherman crunch. It does everything else that the knives can't do.

I carry only one knife each day: Cold Steel Voyager Tanto with plain edge. I carry it just in case I encounter something that requires cutting.

Could very well be. Wouldn't be the first time that I found out I had a BladeForums neighbor very close by. I found out earlier in the year that prigger worked just across the run-way from me. Unfortunately, I found out about 10 days before he got out of the USMC and moved to IL.

Oh well, we'll have to continue this thread of discussion after the new year, I suppose, because this is probably going to be my last post on here this year. Take care, all, and have a happy new year.
