I prefer it. Carrying Tip up makes it harder to draw and open quickly with the Speed Safe AO. I use my index finger to activate the AO, and pulling it Tip Down puts your finger in the perfect spot for activation

am i missing something?

I agree. Tip up makes you go through two steps to open the blade. With tip down you already have your hand on the opener as soon as you touch the knife in your pocket.

I could never understand why peoiple like tip up. I have tip up knives and they are a real PITA.

Tip-up allows a knife to be waved if you draw right, even on knives that don't have a thumbplate or some kind of hook. All it needs is a tall enough thumbstud to snage on the edge of the pocket, then the blade comes out incredibly fast. That's the main reason I prefer it, as well as the fact that the knife is already oriented in the hand once it clears the pocket.

The only thing I hate is that a lot of flipper-models don't come with the option of tip-up carry. If I carried on my left side, it wouldn't be a big deal, but I always prefer to carry on my right side (and with a flipper, in right-hand tip down, you run the chance of bumping the flipper and opening the tip into your inner-thigh or even worse... the chicken nuggets). I usually carry my handgun in an in-the-waistband holster on the right side, so my flashlight/keys/spare-mag-carrier are in my left pocket.

I will sometimes carry tip-down my back right pocket so it puts the spine of the blade against the right-side seam of my back pocket and makes it pretty safe (but then it puts the flipper toward whatever I'm sitting on, and if its a protruding flipper with aggressive jimping, that can mean a scratched/torn leather seat).

You forgot to put RC Cola down at the bottom

Bite your tongue sir (it does say "Royal Crown" right on the label - its the drink of kings :D )!

I'm curious - what are the two steps to open the blade when in tip-up? Seems like you're adjusting your hand an extra step in tip-down to me. Not trying to start anything here, just curious as to what the extra step is.

Tip up for me since I mostly carry Emersons. The only tip down knife I owned opened up slightly in my pocket. When I reached in my pocket for my keys, I received a nice gash on my hand. Never carried that knife again.
