Why do you have knives?

It's my hobby.

I buy at least 1/month, sometimes 2-3 depending on prices...
I figure some ppl(like my father), can spend 10/pack of smokes, hitting 3/week. thats 30/week, 120/month.

Knives are cheaper and healthier than some hobbies out there.

Another reason is that they mka life so much simpler.

"Tool-rejecting ape". That's the best line I've heard all day.

iIt would be impossible for anyone to be able to go through life without some kind of knife. The loudest and most unbending proponents of any type of knife control or banning goes home at night and dices his or her supper with a big assed chef knife yet they just don't get it.

I have knives because I can. They possess seemingly infinite variety, yet virtually every last one was designed to cut something. They are undoubtedly one of mankind's earliest tools, that had a lot to do with moving mankind into a technical future.

I simply love many of them. I am fascinated by their designs, by their manufacture, by their purposes, and how well they do what they were made to do. However simple their basic intent, they tie art into the practical, both in terms of design and their finish.

I have always been fascinated by knives. Have carried one since I was 5. I cannot imagine life without them.

The reason I give when people ask me why I have knives is the same as the reason I give when they ask why I like the outdoors and wilderness here in New Zealand.

"If you have to ask that question, you would not understand the answer!"

But since you all will understand the answer, it is "I have knives because they are sharp, useful, and comforting"...sounds dumb? probably. But I know that you will understand!!

Becasue I have a small... thingy and it makes me feel like a real man:rolleyes: . That I hasten to add is the sheeple opinion!

James M said it best, I carry a knife because I am a man and not an ape.

How many times I have needed to use a knife in public and had to use my teeth as sheeple get upset:mad: . In the workplace it is invaluable, when camping it is the ultimate tool. If I were to go on a survival exersise the first and most important thing I would chose would be a good knife.

In a programme recently seen on the BBC, a number of contestants were sent to Spain to survive for a week in terrible rainly and cold conditions. The best quote was from one of the male contestents on day 5 (they had NO tools with them) "if I could have just one thing, it would be a knife, you can do so many things with a knife and a stone just don't cut it" LMAO!:D
