Why do you keep buying knives????

Okay, I keep buying them for some unknown reason. I have gone to www.webmd.com but can find no disease listed for the symptoms I display.

The funny thing is that I really only carry one or two knives, those being either the Cold Steel Recon-1 or the MOD Hornet. Both are plain edged.

The other knives of which there are many, sit in my knife drawer or my gun safe. To be played with and admired.

So why do I keep buying knives that really don't get used? Does anyone else suffer from this affliction?

Maybe I can start a group KAA (Knife-Aholics Annonymous), what do you think?

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I don't understand my compulsion to continue buying knives. I guess deep down I'm always on the hunt for the "last knife I'll ever need". This, of course is like trying to find Bigfoot. All the fun lies in the speculation and in the search not the result. If that makes me sick, so be it!:)

I don't know why I still buy them? I'm sick?

The money for knivess could be money for motorcycle stuff! :D

Why do I keep buying knives? It's certainly not because I have to. I could quit buying knives right now if I wanted to. Well, I have a few custom knives on order, but once they all arrive then I could quit immediately. There are a few production folders that I think I will pick up, not because I have to mind you, I could quit buying knives today if I wanted to. I have no need to hold, fondle and caress these wonderful, shiny sharp objects of desire; no not me. Maybe some of the rest of you have this problem, but I can take knives or leave them, honest.

So, to all you people that just have to continue buying knives, my sympathies, it must be hell. Have I mentioned that I could quit buying knives today if I wanted to?

It's definitely some kind of sickness / disorder / mental defect.
I'm quitting smoking for the new year, maybe next year it will be knives.

I have two kinds of knives, fighters and task knives. The former never cut anything in fear that one day they will be used for SD. Some blade just give me a chubby. Off duty I carry about six or seven. I am also into martial blade craft so thats how I justify most.

"Some blade just give me a chubby."

Sounds like a good reason to me, probably the best I've read so far.

knives have opened letters of good tidings, initiated wedding cakes, sat in display cases, hung on walls, knives have ended civilizations in and tyrants battle, knives have freed newborns from their umbilical cords.

knives are tools, weapons, & art - all wrapped in a virtually everlasting singular trinity.

ahh, we love knives.

I think a big reason for the purchase and admireing of knives and guns is the fact that we all live in a trouble filled world that we have very little controll over.Knives and guns and the like are sort of a controll factor in that we can pick then up and look at their fit and finish and how everything fits together perfectly and works without flaw. This helps make up for the uncontrolable things that happen in our everday lives that don't all ways fit or work out right.
Just my half hearted view on the thing.

It's because I keep looking for the PERFECT folder...(Eventho the Al Mar SERE 2000 is just about perfect, I do wish that the blade was a little longer...).

I keep buying knives because there are just so many that I like. I have had to come to terms with how many I can afford as opposed to how many I want!:( The great thing about today's knives is that we can buy really great knives at nearly every price point from $20 - $2,000+. My advice is that if you are a collector, then by definition, you have knives that you do not use. If your budget is intact, enjoy your hobby.:D

No Brainer....

My wife said the budget was tight and I needed to give up knives or smoking....

I'm much healthier now that I gave up the milder addiction!

Under Webmd, look up OCD [ Obssesive compulsive disorder ]. You'll find your malady there under that description.

I have suffered from OCD for years. First it was the guns, then the antique treasure ship coins [ pieces of eight, and gold dablonas ], then onto flashlights, then onto m14' and their accessories, then and now onto knives both fixed and folders.

I can't help myself, I suffer from OCD. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

Until the wife gets me some help, I'll just have to continue to suffer from this nasty malady and continue to buy, buy, and buy some more [ until the wife threatens with her own "good-bye" ].

I've found the knife, the style, the blade length and the manufacturer that meets my needs and wants.

However, just because something is useable doesn't mean that other stuff stops being desireable. I must admit, some of my drawer queens have to go, but this is supposed to be a fun hobby. Waiting for the UPS guy is fun, isn't it!:D
