  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Why do you love knives?

I've always been around knives, the men in my family have hunting knives, pocket knives, the women have kitchen knives and we rely on them everyday. I branched out from just enjoying the knives used for food preparation early and wanted blades to carry with me all the time. It started with a red Spyderco Endura my Dad bought me while we were attending a gun show. I'd never seen such a knife, with it's one hand opening, fully serrated blade and pocket clip. I carried it for years, until I caught the plastic pocket clip on a door, while in my pocket, breaking it off cleanly. Was I ever upset! After that I started buying other knives, that improved on the idea being they had metal pocket clips. along with all the other improvements, we still see evolving steadily today.

Now there's so many brands to choose from, made in every style imaginable, with all sorts of different steels and handle designs. I never dreamed the knife industry would provide so many great choices, back then when I was given that first Spyderco. That's why I love knives, today there's always something new and exciting coming out and it's fun to watch a new idea, such as blades that glide open on bearings, go from being new and exotic, to being common & affordable.

Somewhere in the back of my brain is a primitive human bit that sees value in tools and weapons. Knives have been a human tool long enough that they have their own special designation. Its just sort of built in. Curvy women, knives, guns, fast toys, etc... These aren't things I had to learn to like. The instinct to like them was built in.

Couldn't say it better myself.

I grew up watching MacGyver and he used his swiss army knife like a wizard with a magic wand. Seriously, that show made knives look like they have magical properties... well, it must have magical properties because many are enchanted by them.
