Why do you need a knife that opens with one hand?

Let me first say I'm an American, Conservative at that. But I am also firm in saying that knives are tools, not weapons. I've only ever carried fixed blades, slip joints, and traditional lock backs(I'm a traditionalist). I'm not trying start an argument, just curious of all your answers of why you need to have a knife that deploys faster than the speed of sound. :)

Well, I lost my right (dominant) hand 20 years ago and have trouble opening many folders. I typically carry a small fixed blade now. The only folders I've been able to open easily are certain models of Spyderco with the thumbhole. I even have difficulties with switchblades and found that the ones which are most user friendly are D/A Microtech OTFs -- but they typically retail at about $300, so I don't carry one right now.

The same reason that I own a car with an automatic transmission, convenience.

Because, having all these young whipper-snappers buying one handed open and closing knives is good for the economy.;) I usually have a Buck 110 on my belt and if I am really stuck, I can always 'biker-drop' it open.
