Why do you never see any BAe for sale

This is my grail knife as far as fixed blades go but I have literally never seen one for sale on the exchange. Now granted I have not been here super long but I thought id at least see one of them by now. Are these knives just very rare?

I don't think too many were made, and they have been out of production for a long time. I see them on the exchange from time to time. They sell, but it's not a feeding frenzy. Keep checking the exchange, you'll see one pop up.

I traded one a while back and have seen at least 2 or 3 more sense then.

there's been at least 5 sold on the exchange here in the last year, maybe several more than that. One had to be relisted several times. That can discourage people from selling too so you could have willing sellers floating around that don't feel like selling when there isn't enough interest

I wonder if they were just priced extremely high or something. I personally cant see why someone wouldnt want one to me its literally the perfect 5 inch fixed blade. I guess ill just keep looking for one to pop up thanks guys.

IIRC, back around the turn of the millennium, Papathud brought to Blade West a one off prototype (this was before the "variant" craze really got underway) of a blade that was very similar to what would become the BAe. I believe he mentioned that Mrs. Papathud had developed a particular fondness for the blade and was reluctant to part with it even for the duration of the show. :) He referred to it by a different name back then. It may have been a two word name that began with "Game" (Game Keeper, maybe?), but I couldn't swear to it. What I could swear to was how awesome I thought the 'ergo' handle felt on a knife with a blade in the 4 to 5 inch range. Needless to say, when the BAe was eventually offered, I was all over it like Rosie O'Donnell on a buffet line.

That may have been the "Caretaker".

BAe's normally fall into black holes. People get them, and with few exceptions, never let go.

I screwed up and sold mine 1 month before they were discontinued.

Luckily one came available a few months ago.

Good luck on your search.

I know how you feel Patrick . I'd love to find a BA3 but have never seen one for sale either here OR on the big auction site . ...snip... ;)

Thats pretty much my feelings on this knife. The first time I saw it I knew I had to have one. The only other knife to hit me like that from any of the Busse shops was the RMD.

I fell in love with the Badger when they were still in production, and it hasn't lessened any since. The first time I used mine to skin a pig I got even more attached, it performed like a champ. I've had a few through the years, they're out there. Post a WTB! There's always someone that isn't even thinking of selling that might get the spark to do so. Always worth a shot.

i wouldnt mind a Caretaker either but its like winning the lotery and having two other people win it at the same time. Its still a Ergo handles Busse but the BAe is imo perfect. I also prefer a 5 inch blade to a 6 inch.

I just saw a Badger Attack ergo go on eBay last week go for what seemed like a good price (always seems that way when you DON'T bid, right?) Anyway, i don't see them on the exchange much, so i didn't bid.

Hmmm... maybe i should have.

Newbiestupidity?

Might have been one of the original Game Wardens, only a few out there (maybe two?) Shorter blade than the BAe, want one in the worst way. Never went into production.

That could very easily be the case as well. As I say, for some reason the name "Game" is stuck in my mind, even as the proto I handled bore no resemblance to what became the production model Game Keeper.

It is the ergo Game Warden. There are two of them, Papathud has one, Skunk has the other, AFAIK.

I meant to say Game Warden in my previous post, but there you go, I think you have it exactly right.

I've had a couple of BAE's and let them go. They were my grail for a while when I first found Busse. I would have to say that there are many more impressive Busse's out there now. The blade height combined with short OAL on the BAE's make's for a VERY stout feeling knife. Too stout for my taste. I actually prefer the NOE over the BAE after handling them both, even though the NOE is longer than I normally prefer.

Good luck finding one! I think the SAR4's are a good substitute. Or, for the BAIII, you may like the Pork Shank. I still have a DABA, and I plan on hanging on to it!
