why do you own combat knives?

Just because they are another interesting form of knife and ill only buy them if they also have a utilitarian purpose. Also i am sorry to admit it but when i was younger, and before i found this site, CS's solid proof video got to me, now i am disgusted by it.

Because handguns are prohibited/extremely hard to obtain, while combat knives have only a handful of relatively flexible regulations in Canada.

And there are occasional zombie attacks, and giant raccoons. They're NASTY, man... :p

Got to kill my daily zombie quota why else? Plus, the cs solid proof videos show us how it's done.:D

You never know when your gonna have to do some killin. (most of the time it's envelopes that need it around here).:o:D

Well, personally, I purchased my WASP because I do a lot of shark and bear wrasslin'.

Why?
Why not? My first was a Ka-Bar, which has, naturally, many utilitarian purposes. The rest are, well, sharp, and thus have potential utilitarian purposes.
Plus they look cool!

Because, I WANT to own them.

Duh! Don't mean to be insulting, but WHY ASK WHY?

I've got this little number on order. Short, Sweet - and Deadly as a Bullet:

Keith's answer is my answer- because I like them. All the justification I need.

To the OP: I'm sure everyone has different definitions of what a "combat knife" is, but what do YOU think a combat knife is? My definition is a knife that's designed to be able to take mild abuse, is easily sharpened, and who's design allows it to be used equaly well as both a weapon and a tool. The military Kabar fits this definition to a T. (Coincidintally, its also the knife most people think of when they think "combat knife.":D

Oh, yeah - Canada. Prohibitive gun laws. That'll change when you're a state (Northern Montana).

...Because handguns are prohibited/extremely hard to obtain...

I don't mean to hijack this thread but they actually aren't very hard to obtain at all. All you have to do is pass the non-restricted (PAL) and restricted (RPAL) safety courses, apply for a PAL/RPAL from the CFC, wait for them to send you your PAL/RPAL (one card with both designations, takes a couple months to clear you), and go shopping. The only restriction is really having to fire a handgun and other restricted firearms at a certified range. I know several people who walked into a store with their RPALs, picked out a handgun each, asked the store owner to call the CFC to obtain authorizations to transport, and they walked out of the store with their handguns. Buying the actual handgun took 4 hours. It varies by the gun store but once you have your RPAL, buying a handgun is almost as easy as buying a pair of jeans. If you want more information about the whole process, check out this website:
