Why do you rotate your EDC knife?

I carry one of three knives (one at a time). An Andre Devilliers Pathfinder which is my favorite, a Pat Crawford Leopard and my small Sebenza. Numerous others I carry from time to time. In the field I carry a Fehrman LC. I believe some knives are users no matter what I payed for them and some just belong on the wall and have very little practical use. The best way to honor a knife and its maker is to use it.

I rotate my knives basically just to switch it up a bit. I have a ton of favorite knives, so instead of carrying 10 on my person, i just switch it up a little bit.

Hi Suzuki - I change it up so I can enjoy all the cool knives I own. I always have my Vic Waiter with me as well - that one does not rotate.

Doesn't having a "rotation" kinda defeat the term EVERY DAY CARRY. If you switch the knife you carry every day then it's not an EVERY DAY CARRY knife.

Hi quick kill - For semantics sake, if you are carrying a knife, any knife, every day, then whatever you have that day could be considered your every-day carry option. Discussing the semantics of the terminology is really picking the fly-specks out of the pepper, don't you think? ;)

best regards -

Each new knife gets a little more pocket time, then that wears off and I go back into random rotation. Then I get a new one and the cycle starts all over again.

good observation. i think you're correct - there is no such thing as EDC rotation :D

as for me, i don't rotate, i remember a saying "beware of the man with only one gun" and kind of subscribe to that philososy. unfortunately, i do have to switch between 'on duty' and 'off duty' carry. 710 in pocket (on duty), Nimravus concealed (off duty). more and more i've tried to OC a larger FB, but don't like not having a concealed FB and two is just too many.

I try to use all my knives because i buy them as users. I have a few safe queens (that i will probably sell).

I want to try out all the different knife steels but i have to many knives to really "test" them:o.

I mostly carry my latest purchases and because i always have something new on order the older ones get less chance.
Sometimes i carry more than 1 or have some knives that do the dirty/heavy knife chores.

Knives that get no or not much use will be sold for something i think i will use more.

One of the highlights of my morning is opening the safe and picking my daily carry. Like so many others I have no fixed rotation I just like seeing the collection and picking what strikes my fancy at that moment. Then about once a month I'll switch out the SAFE and put some back in the boxes and bring out some others I haven't seen in a while.

Call them "spares" rather than a rotation. I have a half dozen or so small sodbusters without a strong preference for any of them. When one dulls and I don't feel like sharpening it immediately or I don't feel like going back upstairs to retrieve one from yesterday's pants, I pull out another and carry it for a few days. The differences between them are too slight to be a major concern. My preference for locks is not strong enough to preclude me from sometimes carrying my Case or Queen.

btw, I read EDC as meaning "suitable for my ordinary tasks" as opposed to "special purpose". It's one of the peculiarities of English that words often have multiple, even contradictory, meanings. "Everyday" can mean either "ordinary" or literally "every day".

At the end of the day it depends on where I'm going and what my mood is. That's the fun of knife collecting. You just get to change it around whenever you feel like.

But for a little more clarification here is what I'm currently going through

Small Folders:
-Small Sebenza 21
-Spyderco Delica 4 FFG
-Spyderco Sage 1
-Victorinox Pioneer

Large Folders (those days I want bigger)
-Strider SnG
-Emerson Horseman.

I used to rotate every day mainly because I have enough folders to pretty much have one for each day of the year. Then i switched to carrying whatever fit my feeling that day. Latley I have stuck with just 1 or 2 knives. My leafstorm, sebbie or ZT 302. The 302 has been the primary since I recieved it.

If you go to YouTube you find a person called DarkChild57. I believe that he has a different knife for everyday of the year. That being said I use a CS Rajah III as my everyday beater. Periodically I will change for variety or based on the task at hand..

good link..

I carry the same ZT 0301 and Leatherman Wave all the time...No changes for me.
Hahahaha! I guess great minds think alike. I never leave the house without my Wave and ZT300. :D
No rotation for me, I like having everything the same. It's a muscle memory thing.

I don't have a set rotation. I carry whatever appeals to me most that day. Sometimes I carry the same knife for a week, sometimes for a few hours.

I fall in this category. Although I do try to carry the knife for a week so that I can acustomed to drawing, opening, using, closing, and back to the pocket.

WHY do I rotate my carry knives? because its FUN>......

No really, If I'm going to church my HEST simply doesn't look so kewl in dress clothes, so in this case I have to carry a 'gentlemen' knife..

I went to formal concert with my wife couple weeks back, this called for a colored delica to match my attire. :D

other then that its been my HEST exclusively with a folder (that I rotate as the mood allows)
