Why does everyone rave about the Benchmade 710?

While IMO the 710 is in fact an excellent knife, here's my theory:

Everyone raves about it because people (myself included) like to have something to rave about, and because the 710 has already been raved about for years, people know it's safe to rave about without getting joshed by 1000 "experts".

Also everyone with any sort of usual homo sapient opposing thumb knows that the 710 is, as stated numerous times, a simply superb tool. It's not often we knife fanatics agree almost unilaterally on something so it shocks me that you would try to upheave this magnificent sense of unity we all have been experiencing in regards to our opinions on the Benchmade 710.

But that's just what I think.

Been EDC's mine for almost 2 weeks now, so far it only continues to impress.

Never thought anything would knock my 732BT off it's pedestal, but the 710 is climbing towards it quick.

Amazing how well it carries for a knife it's size.

Well, I finally got the 710 w/ 154CM (1 week ago). It hasn't left my pocket since I got it. I love this knife. Now I know why everyone raves about it. It's light, thin, easy to open (even the thumb stud), long, strong, and sharp. I've been relishing opportunities to whip it out into action.

Thank you all for your responses. All of your pearls of wisdom were extemely helpful. I'm the type of person that researches most of my purchases. I hate buyer's remorse. I haven't experienced it with this knife and thanks to you, I never will.

Necro-
You are absoulutely right with your first point about people feeling safe to laud the 710 because everyone does, and I know I got to this party a bit late, but I gotta tell ya, I am a longtime knife collector and user, fairly new to forums and I had no idea that everybody loved it so much. As soon as this old thread caught my eye, I instantly started to think about things to say about the 710 because all reviews and opinions aside, I believe it truly is one of the greatest folders ever!!:) I even own two just in case anything ever happens to the one I carry every day. Hmmm, maybe I should pick up a couple more.

Cheers,
Jon

Well, I've held both the 154CM and the D2 and I'm torn. If $ were no object, I'd buy both. But, $ is an object. Which one should I buy???

I'm also held back by the way the thumb stud is situated.

Hey Freddy,
I have 2 710s and both are in D2. I think I did that because I already had plenty of 154CM folders and wanted to have a variety. Turns out, now I kind of prefer the D2. I just love the way it holds an edge, and when it finally does need sharpening I can bring it back really quick.

Also, you mentioned being worried about the thumbstud on the knife?? With an axis as smooth as the 710's, who the heck needs a thumbstud??:D

Great to hear it ReadyFreddy! His eyes open :)

I've been relishing opportunities to whip it out into action.
ain't it the truth!

Seems the 710 thread comes up about every month or so, now it's your turn to add to the happy-chain link comments! :D

Every once in a whiule, something comes along that is an instant classic, and it's many years, perhaps even decades, before anyone designs something better.

The Winchester '73 and Colt Single Action Army, and Colt 1911 come to mind.

IMHO the BM 710 fits into that category. :)

I will do my best to convey my very biased opinion about the 710 to anyone who asks for advice about it. Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to educate a noob.

Make sure you have plenty of work for that 710. Mine growls at me if it gets bored.
