Why does Hinderer not do reblades?

I have no experience with CRK customer service and quite a bit of experience with RHK customer service. RHK has been incredibly inconsistent between what’s been said and what’s been done. In short, I was told warranty service on the lock or blade play would have a lock bar insert added. That didn’t happen. Anyhow, I have heard horror stories about CRK denying warranty claims because lockbars are too worn or someone “abused” the knife by supposedly “flicking” it open. I think what’s happening with the small production companies is that RHK is likely to warranty the blade in the event of an in-use break, where CRK would likely charge you for the replacement for one reason or another.

If I had a knife that was old enough and used enough to require a new blade; chances are the handles are trashed as well and would have no qualms about buying a new knife. I don't really care what Hinderers policy is on this they still make some of my favorite knives and I will always own at least one or two of them. I have a Buck Yachtsman that I used in my 20's and 30's as a commercial diver, that I used heavily and sharpened to the point of pretty much trashing the blade and I had no problem retiring it. I just bought another Hinderer and I doubt if I will ever give it up.

I understand the argument that they produce in batches, small numbers, and that it’s costly for them to keep blades for replacement. Could be, it makes sense. However, it would certainly be cool if you tire of a, say, Spanto blade and could switch it for a slicer..., at a cost, of course.

Yeah then you could have folks on here and Instagram complaining that after they reassembled it the scales are crooked or the lockup is poor.

Win-Win!

Not really. Lock rock goes away for about a day or two. After a few opening cycles, it comes right back.

That's a shame. It's a shame that even such renowned companies like RHK and CRK have a good amount of people with poor customer service experiences.

I agree completely. That combined with a negative social media interaction I had with Rick Hinderer himself have made me very close to selling the knife, honestly. It’ll derail the thread a tad, but I essentially told another person that the RHK website is the last place I would look to buy knives and I would first look at his distributors. The person in question had mentioned he was wanting an XM but couldn’t find one (all distributors had in stock quantities). Rick chimes in and basically berated me for suggesting his knives were in stock anywhere since the OP couldn’t find them and rudely informed me that his website was the best place to go, never mind he rarely, if ever, has quantities in stock on his site.

They run a for profit business and don't have to pander to childish impulses to change the color of your shoes to match your bag .

If I ran either company Id say F'em too. they can buy a new knife unless its a warranty claim. What reason would I have to put forth any effort for your one off request when the goal is to build and sell finished products?

I've had thirty or more CRK's over the yrs, and generally carry my large Regular or a large 21. I have my large 21 in there right now for service. If I did want a blade replacement, it would be fine as their later blades are a bit harder and would last longer between sharpenings. I've never had an "issue" with CRK that caused me any anxiety at all, and have only the highest praise for CRK over the last fifteen or more yrs that I've owned and collected their small and large Sebbies.
Most are gone now, and I have only my Zaan and two Sebbies remaining...

i like to think that it would take years of "normal" non-abusive knife use, resharpening, using, resharpening to break, until the blade is worn down so much that one day it just snaps, but like i said, years --- and that's when you realize you got your moneys worth out of it, so replace the whole damn thing altogether. if a buck 110 lasts you 10 years, at $44.00, that's awesome

Funny that RHK literally sells every G10 color under the sun, has different hardware options that include clips with small gears on them that spin, and regularly releases new aesthetic finishes that serve no purpose. So, I’d say they do plenty of childish pandering.

Rick is the master of the Pimp My Knife game!

And then send it to Buck, spend $10 and get a new blade and a spa treatment and then put it back to work for another 10 years. Talk about return on investment!

You need to stay far away from Hinderer and stick with Protech. They will replace your worn out knife blade for a fee that I don’t mind paying.

From all the posts I’ve seen online, it does seem like CRK has better customer service than RHK. I’ve seldom seen people post negatively about CRK support while I have seen many regarding RHK
