Just out of curiousity, I'm wondering why it seems that Paypal doesn't want you to use a credit card for payment.
They give you a couple of reasons why not using a credit card is better. :jerkit:
(for them....)
And then ask you if you're sure you want to use a credit card.
Is it more expensive for them if you use a CC?
Thanks.
If so, everyone start using CCs on Paypal! :D

Im in banking for almost 2 decades and VERY few get my banking digits (especially NOT PP) Only go the CC route with them, how else would one contest a deal gone bad etc if not through a charge back (which PP frowns upon as well, I say F--k em :-)? Good advise though WM:thumbup:

Yes,only use credit cards, because that is the only surefire way to get some purchase protection. After you have so many dollars in transactions they will require a bank account added or another credit card. I believe it is after 1000.00 dollars.I open a savings account just for Paypal, confirm the account, and you can use it for withdrawls as well, or you can close it shortly after opening it,and Paypal will not know the difference. Then they have no banking access, and you have unlimited use of the credit card.

I own a small business and know every time a business take a credit card transaction they get charged a 3.5% user fee each time , trust me it adds up fast.

Ed, if you want even more security on those PayPal internet CC transactions, and you have a Discover Card, you can download from dicsovercard dot com a software that generates a unique one-time-use-only card number so you actual CC nnumber will not be out there in cyberspace.

It is very very secure.

On the other paw, Discover told me (in writing) that they will only give you a chargeback (reverse the charge against your account) if their "customer' -- the seller  -- agrees to the credit. I had a dispute when an "excellent" slipjoint with "no cracks in scales" turned out to be horribly pitted with almost no snap and badly cracked scales (oh the joys of fuzzy, backlit pictures :barf: ). The seller refused to undo the sale ("sold as is"), and I had to threaten to sue Discover AND report them to the federal regulators before they would reverse the charge on my account.

By the way, specific representations of condition trump "sold as is."

I just ran into this on a recent sale. The amount was only $20.00. The purchaser used a credit card through paypal. I received a notice that because this was a credit card transaction that I would have to loose my personal account status and have to upgrade to a premium account to recieve these funds. This would mean a monthly charge, transaction fee and 3.5%. Forget about it. It would be less expensive for me to just give him the item. Instead of depending on your CC co. for protection know who you're dealing with and only deal with reputable people. When I sell one of my knives I always give the option to return after inspection. My photography skills suck and I would hate anyone to feel like they paid for something that they didn't get, but then again because my pictures are so bad it always looks a lot better in person...lol

I don't mind teh 3.5% if I was paid by a credit card but PP wants 3.5% on everything once you take a CC payment.

So I set up two accounts on for receiving bank transfers and one for receiving CC payments.

It works great!

Well, as an International buyer/customer, I only use C/C either direct or through PayPal. If I want to use my bank account to pay International, I have to do an "International Transfer" which costs me additional AU$30.00 per transaction. As the amounts that I normally deal with are between US$50.00 to US$150.00, the transfer fee is just too high as a percentage of the whole deal.......so, if I cant use a C/C then I don’t buy.
