Why does the alox pioneer have a half stop?

I just wrote Victorinox to settle things here. Hopefully they can give us a definitive answer as to the initial purpose of adding the half stop. I will report back when I hear back form them.

Great idea. Now I feel like stripping wire just because :D

What difference does it make? Seriously.

Even if Victorinox didn't have in mind what the video showed (which I doubt is the case), the video gives a better use for the half stop. I seriously doubt there's a way to properly use a SAK which Victorinox is not aware.

I'm just interested in the reason they originally designed the half stop. I enjoy the history of Victorinox and like to have accurate information regarding things I do not already know about.

I don't know why your so opposed to asking a simple question?

I don't know why he is either....anyhoo, looking forward to their response to you; I too would really like to know the official reason for the half stop.

Well I for one have never used the wire strippers as described in the first video.
Wonder what Victorinox will say to settle the score.

They will probable list 5+ ways to used it. lol

That wire-stripper Demo video on YouTube above was great. I never thought about cutting the wire casing like that. Awesome

So, per above, being used to break loose a tight screw? The Original Soldier model had only a screwdriver blade (no caplifter or wire stripper) yet it still had the 90 degree halfstop so I still believe it was meant to break open tight screws.

Me too, although sometimes implements get rearranged in different models so they can be included but not always retaining all of their originally designed functions. In any case, I would bet* that the above explanation is the correct one.

*a modest amount ;)

Victorinox never wrote me back. :grumpy:

Disappointing, but the employees who get these communications probably have no idea what does what on Victorinox products, especially the less obvious uses. Anybody can figure out knife or screwdriver, but half stop and notch can be a challenge. Chances are, most enthusiasts (us ;)) know more about SAKs than many of the salaried workers at the company that sells them.
